Apple stops signing iOS 15.0 following iOS 15.0.1 release, curtailing downgrading

Following the release of iOS 15.0.1 on October 1st, Apple has stopped signing iOS 15.0, the previously available version of iOS that saw a public release on September 20th, curtailing downgrading.

iOS 15

Juli Clover for MacRumors:

With iOS 15.0 no longer being signed, it is not possible to downgrade to that version if you’ve already updated to iOS 15.0.1.

Apple last week stopped signing iOS 14.8 as well, which means iOS 15.0.1 is the only publicly available version of iOS at this time, and those who have upgraded to iOS 15 cannot downgrade to iOS 14.

Apple routinely stops signing older versions of software updates after new releases come out in order to encourage customers to keep their operating systems up to date.

    1. I think it is clear by now that iOS/iPad OS 15 is NOT software you should be upgrading to. I’ll see how long Apple supports iOS/iPad OS 14, what improvements have been made to 15 in the meantime and what the status of Apple’s surveillance program is, hopefully I have another year before I have to decide whether or not to ditch Apple permanently.

    1. And here is where the whole “anticompetitive Apple” thing comes in that Europe recognizes. The fact that you have no choice for safety is hardly a justification for Apple doing what it does.

    2. You sound like a coffee boy in Apple’s PR spin department. I’ve never seen anyone on MDN suggest that they were ditching Apple for Android, as if those are the only two choices. Apple is on notice precisely because they are becoming more evil, like Google.

  1. Nick, going forward, please use, ASP. Using the full word description is foreboding to potential new customers. As well, awareness of the Program is more likely to fade with current users.

    1. Dear “GlassHollow”—I’m glad it’s so far so good for your update. Until it’s verified that they ARE NOT, and WILL NOT be sneaking in the backdoor access to our private information and interfering with perfect privacy I plan to wait it out. I’m curious about what the update stats are for IOS 15. Less than normal, I’d wager.

  2. Just another notch forward these totalitarian oligarchs are using to follow the pre-1933 “German” playbook. In about 2-3 years if you have ANY center right to far right leanings you will be shadow banned 100% of the time. Even in email and text. That is if the world is smart enough to see these scum nazi inspired oligarchs for what they are. nazi lite. They will have an easy time in Australia and Britain, seeing they almost have full control on their society there.
