Apple executive addresses #AppleToo employee concerns in internal video

After a group of Apple employees organizing themselves under the #AppleToo moniker said at the end of August that they’ve collected almost 500 stories from current and former Apple employees about workplace issues including pay equity, racism, sexism, discrimination, retaliation, bullying, sexual and other forms of harassment, and sexual assault, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail + People, Deirdre O’Brien, has addressed the issue in an internal video.

In the video, which was seen by MacRumors, Deirdre O’Brien tells staff who are experiencing workplace issues to talk to their managers and “business relations partner.” She says that Apple has a “confidential process to thoroughly investigate, in a way that treats everyone with dignity and respect.”

According to employees, O’Brien’s suggestion to consult a manager has not worked for some employees. “The system is not working… it’s set up to work against you from the beginning,” one employee told MacRumors, requesting to stay anonymous.

That employee said that workers are often told by their managers that their pay is “within range” for their field, leading to ambiguity about why their salary might not be on par with another employee. The person also said that escalating complaints to Apple’s people team can lead to manager retaliation.

MacDailyNews Take: In the video, O’Brien says that Apple has already “achieved pay equity” in the U.S., but she says that it is still an “ongoing effort.”

    1. Fire the trouble maker… singular? I’m sure the cancer has already spread far, wide, deep and high. You know what they say about a bad apple.

Apple can’t fire ALL of their ultra woke, PC, wacko left employees. Anyone care to guess what percentage of their employees that might be? 15%, 20%, 40%, more?

It is the US… California… so I’d bet on a high percentage

    1. Because they are more spoiled and are rotten non producing bozos that get coddled. People like that have holes in their hearts and the entire universe can’t fill their rotten loser souls.

Best bet is to fire them.

No doubt there will be some that have true grievances that are legit, but the vast majority of them are just bozos that are mad they cannot cut it in a competitive workplace and want to lash out the world for their own mediocrity. They should find equally mediocre employers, perhaps in Seattle where they can settle.

    2. I agree.
O’Brien’s suggestion to consult a manager is simply a standard procedure in any organization, and I am sure that’s the first thing employee (s?) did. The issue should be treated in a confidential process? Of course. No argument there. But it appears that the culture of secrecy, deception and distrust seeped in over the years ever since —–, and unfortunately it rooted deeply in the once proud company. When these matters started coming out, it is a sign that something is reaching a breaking point from within. Sooner or later, it will pass a point of no return and the only way to remedy it is to clear the air once and for all under more trustworthy leadership. Once erupted, it would be out of control. Trying to wrestle them don by iron fist is the worst kind of management but it could happen, making the matter even worse. Secrecy, disregard and iron fist management never work. Blowing nice and noble SJW horn is one thing, but one should talk the talk, walk the walk to demonstrate them both internally and externally. Perhaps the fruit started getting rotten inside? No exaggeration.

      1. I have absolutely no idea if the complaints by these specific employees are legitimate. But I am only looking in from outside and commenting based on what has been reported by legitimate medium.
But it appears that O’Brien is complaining that she/Apple was not happy that these matters became public, hence confidentiality remark. I have personal knowledge of what’s really going on inside of Apple. I only see that these kinds of incidents seem to be suddenly becoming more frequent. What’s his name, the author of a book which made a reference to “Silicon Volley women” or something? After supposedly thorough vetting for months, he moved to Apple to start his new job there. 2 days later, he was fired because some employees made comments. Nothing is consistent within Apple.

        1. I have personal knowledge of what’s really going on inside of Apple.
MDN site has no “edit” capability :-). My typoe is always someone else’s error, right 🙂
Above should of course read: I have NO personal knowledge of what’s really going on inside of Apple.
          Sorry…

    3. Well because the “progress” amounts to legions of helicopter parented, participation trophied, gender confused, safe space needy, America hating little socialists who have been given a vapid philosophy on life. They are not prepared to succeed individually on merit. The idea of individual responsibility means nothing to them. They are expecting equal outcome no matter what. And Apple is a champion of this nonsense so I sincerely hope they see what they have wrought.

  1. These complainers should be happy the have a job. Because you don’t make the same as a fellow employee may be because you are not the same. If you want pay equity join civil service or the military. All people of the same rank or rate and longevity get the same whether you bust your but or not.

If you don’t like your circumstances at Apple take you talents elsewhere.

  2. The new generation is way too woke for little old Apple. Good luck, Apple management, you are gonna need it… especially in one of the most business unfriendly states in the US. Lawsuits, regulations, fines, taxes, lawsuits, regulations, fines, taxes… until there is peace in Talibanland (never, in case you were super hopeful).
