The hacker who stole data of more than 53 million former and prospective T-Mobile US customers, described the wireless carrier’s security as “awful”, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
John Binns, the 21-year-old American who took responsibility for the high-profile hack disclosed by the company last week, told the Journal that he had used an unprotected router to access personal records of customers.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said last week it would investigate the data breach, with some T-Mobile customers also suing the company for damages in Seattle federal court.

Personal data, including social security numbers and driver’s license information, dates of birth, first and last names were stolen, T-Mobile said. The “uncarrier” also said approximately 850,000 active T-Mobile prepaid customer names, phone numbers, and account PINs were also stolen.
The uncarrier that is clearly unprotected. Sad and unsad.
Cheap isn’t usually better
Maybe Apple will challenge the belief that, “you get what you pay for?”
I’ve been with Sprint for a long time, about 3 or do months ago, I started dropping calls at home. Also noticed that when I drove around where I usually drive, I started dropping calls that always worked before. Called t-mobiel, they said I need their sim card. Put it in, no change. Called their tech support, they said I need to run this code on my phone, no change. Called later on, they said it was a local tower the was scheduled to be fixed, yet today, still dropping calls at home. Called yet again, they said they need to sync my sim card, today, still getting dropped calls.
Before all of this, I went to an apple store and the tech checked my phone’s radio, it was working perfectly.
My days with t-mobile are numbered. Freaking joke. Ruined a great carrier (Sprint). I had att and verizon, sprint was the best as far as cost and cust service. Will be going back to Verizon. Hated verizon years ago, they’d charge me for every little background pic or ring tone that I added to my flip phone.
