Tim Cook drops some hints on Apple’s vehicle plans

Following years of rumors that Apple is developing its own autonomous vehicle, CEO Tim Cook hinted toward the company’s work towards “Apple Car.”

Jessica Bursztynsky for CNBC:

“The autonomy itself is a core technology, in my view. If you sort of step back, the car, in a lot of ways, is a robot. An autonomous car is a robot. And so there’s lots of things you can do with autonomy. And we’ll see what Apple does,” Cook said in an interview released Monday with Kara Swisher on the “Sway” podcast.

“We investigate so many things internally. Many of them never see the light of day. I’m not saying that one will not,” Cook added.

When asked if Apple was working on a car itself or the technology within a car, Cook declined to comment.

“We love to integrate hardware, software, and services, and find the intersection points of those because we think that’s where the magic occurs. And so that’s what we love to do. And we love to own the primary technology that’s around that,” he said.

MacDailyNews Take: Apple’s vehicle is, hopefully, coming this decade. May it become available as soon as we’re again in the market for our next vehicles!

  1. Tim “…that’s where the magic occurs…” Too bad Apple never showed some magical love to their poorly designed charging cable sheathing!

  2. Did you ever notice how MDN goes out of its way not to link to stories about Apple that originate in the Nw Yok Tms (or can’t we say that name here?)? Go to the link MDN provides, and in that story you’ll find the link to the Kara Swisher podcast and a transcript of same, which offers lots more than just a few remarks about a potential Apple Car. Sheesh.

  3. NYT’s is the most biased WOKE mouthpiece of the Leftist Democrat’s in the world today. Why would MDN link to this biased rag? Hey, I’m not afraid of them either. They abdicated their journalistic duty duty decades ago and now are TOTALLY IRRELEVANT…

      1. “Why would MDN link to this biased rag?” Because that’s where the original story was published, beans-for-brains. As you will see for yourself if you go to the original NYT piece, it’s a half-hour conversation with Apple CEO Tim Cook, something MDN knows its readers would naturally be interested in.

But instead, it links to a CNBC report about the NYT story. MDN is a link aggregation site with occasionally amusing snark, but it refuses to link to stories from that newspaper (ditto the Washington Post). Why? It’s a major fail in its primary mission. GeoB presumes to answer for MDN, but what he says is nothing but his usual incoherent rage and spittle-spray.

My comment was meant to encourage MDN to think about that and “man up” and give credit where it’s properly due.

        Hi, TXUser,
I didn’t know which of the tiresome MDN trolls would rise to the bait, but I’m not surprised it’s this one. I’m linking this reply through your comment because why would I engage with the most biased UNWOKE mouthpiece of the profacist anti-democratic subversives in the world today? Readers will have to go through your comment, TXUser, to read his. Just like MDN does to the NYT. See what I did there?
