Following years of rumors that Apple is developing its own autonomous vehicle, CEO Tim Cook hinted toward the company’s work towards “Apple Car.”
“The autonomy itself is a core technology, in my view. If you sort of step back, the car, in a lot of ways, is a robot. An autonomous car is a robot. And so there’s lots of things you can do with autonomy. And we’ll see what Apple does,” Cook said in an interview released Monday with Kara Swisher on the “Sway” podcast.
“We investigate so many things internally. Many of them never see the light of day. I’m not saying that one will not,” Cook added.
When asked if Apple was working on a car itself or the technology within a car, Cook declined to comment.
“We love to integrate hardware, software, and services, and find the intersection points of those because we think that’s where the magic occurs. And so that’s what we love to do. And we love to own the primary technology that’s around that,” he said.

Hopefully Apple uses USB-C to charge the car so I can use the same cable and charging block I keep in my pocket for all my devices!

“Why would MDN link to this biased rag?” Because that’s where the original story was published, beans-for-brains. As you will see for yourself if you go to the original NYT piece, it’s a half-hour conversation with Apple CEO Tim Cook, something MDN knows its readers would naturally be interested in.
But instead, it links to a CNBC report about the NYT story. MDN is a link aggregation site with occasionally amusing snark, but it refuses to link to stories from that newspaper (ditto the Washington Post). Why? It’s a major fail in its primary mission. GeoB presumes to answer for MDN, but what he says is nothing but his usual incoherent rage and spittle-spray.
My comment was meant to encourage MDN to think about that and “man up” and give credit where it’s properly due.

Apple had the opportunity to buy Tesla and Cook wouldn’t even take the meeting. Cook has the forward vision of a proctoscope, and is twice as smart.
