Apple prepping new MacBook Pro notebooks this year with much faster processors, updated displays, and the return of its MagSafe magnetic charger, Bloomberg News reports, citing “a person with knowledge of the plans.”

The new laptops are planned to come in two screen sizes, a 14-inch model codenamed J314 and a 16-inch version internally dubbed J316. Both will use next-generation versions of Apple’s in-house Mac processors, upgraded with more cores and enhanced graphics, the person said, asking not to be named as the products are not yet announced.
These devices will mark Apple’s first high-end laptops to move away from Intel Corp. components. The company updated its base 13-inch MacBook Pro with its own M1 chip in November, to broadly positive reviews.
Beyond the more powerful chips, Apple is also planning to step up the displays in its new MacBook Pros with brighter, higher-contrast panels, the person said. The new Macs will look similar to the current versions, albeit with minor design changes. Apple is aiming to launch the new MacBook Pros around the middle of the year.
The company is now bringing back MagSafe, the magnetic power adapter that means any accidental yanking of the power cable would simply detach it from the laptop rather than pull down the entire computer.

Gurman assumed MagSafe meant the old magnetic plug, what if it is wireless charging for the MacBook Pro.
Why not give the possibility to charge BOTH both a proprietary MagSafe connector, as well as through a USB type C port?
I never thought Apple would return to MagSafe charging. I was certain once Apple removed a port it would never return. My daily driver Mac is a late 2015 i7, 15″ MacBook Pro and it uses MagSafe. It’s a terrific machine and MagSafe has always been a great feature for my laptop.
I hope Apple doesn’t take too long to start selling these new MacBooks. I don’t want the competition catching up while Apple takes its time. It seems many computer companies can cobble together multiple models of laptops in a very short time. ASUS just showed off seven new laptop models for CES. That’s just incredible.
I’ll wait until Apple makes it MagaSafe, knowing that when it has fully charged the BigTech toy, I can use it to my standards, my beliefs, my point of view and not worry about some dumbass Big Tech lackey doxing me, delisting me, deplatforming me, deleting me unless I conform to their hateful ways. NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS!
I am so disappointed with Apple. A company that way too often throws out good ideas. I won’t buy a new laptop without the MagSafe.
I’m curious whether I’ll have buyer’s remorse after having bought a tricked-out MacBook Pro M1 a month ago. I will say it has saved me hours when I do my video editing compared to my other machines. I needed a new computer and the M1 came out just in time and has met my needs. But, hey, I like “faster” as much as anyone else 😉 ANd, yeah, i could probably do without the Touch Bar
