Apple and Hyundai set to agree electric car partnership

Apple and South Korea’s Hyundai plan to sign a partnership deal on autonomous electric cars by March and start production around 2024 in the United States, Korea IT News reported on Sunday.

Hyunjoo Jin for Reuters:

The report follows a statement on Friday from Hyundai Motor that it was in early talks with Apple after another local media outlet said the companies aimed to launch a self-driving electric car in 2027, sending Hyundai shares up nearly 20%.

Hyundai Motor declined to comment on the report on Sunday, and reiterated Friday’s comments that it has received requests for potential cooperation from various companies on developing autonomous EVs.

An updated version of the IT news report removed details, including production location and capacity and the timeframe for signing the agreement and launching the pilot vehicles.

The previous version said the companies planned to build the cars at [Hyundai affiliate] Kia Motors’ factory in Georgia, or invest jointly in a new factory in the United States to produce 100,000 vehicles around 2024. The full annual capacity of the proposed plant would be 400,000 vehicles.

The report also said Hyundai and Apple planned to release a “beta version” of the Apple cars next year.

MacDailyNews Take: Reuters reported last month that Apple was moving forward with autonomous car technology and aimed to produce a passenger vehicle that could include its own breakthrough battery technology as early as 2024.

Remember also that Hyundai is capable of making very high quality vehicles as evidenced by their luxury brand Genesis.

  1. Please don’t build a car that hands control to the driver half a second before crashing into a wall.

Also, Apple carplay on my new car is a complete mess. Who do I blame?

      1. The Apple Car can automatically take you to the closest peaceful protest, where historic statues are torn down, businesses are burned and participants are magically protected from contracting C19. Once you have enjoyed your evening’s protest, the Car will whisk you away to the nearest Apple Store, so you can buy more shit from Tim instead of from that business you just torched.

    1. Maybe because South Korea and Hyundai by extension are both pro PRC China. Japan is very anti CCP. A car made in Japan runs the risk of a CCP boycott. And you know apple thinks of everything.

while South Korea has recently elected a Pro CCP government and South Korea is financial tied to the CCP.

“The Chinese side has notified the World Health Organization and relevant countries and regions, including the U.S., of epidemic information in an open, transparent and responsible attitude since the epidemic outbreak,” Geng said.

BULLSHIT – CCP hide the virus outbreak for 2-3 months, then used The WHO to spread misinformation to the whole world. One example.

On January 14, the World Health Organization (WHO) tweeted that there was “no clear evidence” that the coronavirus could spread between people.

funny USA defeated Japan in WW2 now they are one of the USA true allies and USA saved South Korea in the Korean War and USA help build South Korean society up from absolute poverty and I guess in the end they will stab USA in the back.

So no way Apple is gonna build a car in a nation that the CCP dose not approve of. Heck if given a choice Apple would just build the car in China but we know how that would run.

      1. From the story:
“and start production around 2024 in the United States”

from your lack of reading comprehension
“So no way Apple is gonna build a car in a nation that the CCP dose not approve of.”

You’re right, they’re going to build it in the United States.

        1. Your right I didn’t read the article but Maybe by 2024 the CCP will approve 🙂

My question is how do your feel about Apple doing business with a criminal state. It’s great to see Apple stand up to domestic terrorist who broke glass and 5 people died. Now will Apple continue their quest for human rights and defending communities of color that are in enslavement camps. Estimated 65,000 force organ harvesting per year in PRC. 1-3 million in salve work camps ..: ethnic and religious genocide against Tibet for decades. Apple will to stand on principle.

I concede I was wrong about the article EVEN THOUGH I never said anything where the cars where built but that the CCP would be more willing to clash with Japan who is political hostile to the CCP vs South Korea and USA which are political friends

Will you admit that Apple doing businesses with a criminal state is wrong ?

Will you at least admit that forcefully removing organs from a living human being is kinda not a good thing?

Can we find any common ground ?

  2. in other fake news, Apple donates an estimated 69,300 new cars each year to help with the speedy deliver of freshly harvest organs. Normally in the U.S.A waiting times for kidneys can be up 5 years. But all across China in places like Tianjin First Central Hospital most organs are generally available in two weeks. Thanks to the efficiency of the PRC medical industry and a bank of living donors who can be sacrificed to order wait times in the PRC are much less. Lucky as the PRC increases its forced incarceration of Falun Gong practitioners, ethnic Uyghurs, Tibetans, and house Christians there is no foreseeable shortage of kidneys, livers, hearts, lungs, cornea or skin.

“When it came to repurposing materials to help folks, it was a no-brainer,” says ——– of Apple

Of course I’m joking (dark humor still allowed ?) about apples direct involvement but it IS kind of a fact apple’s main business partner is a criminal state.

Any person or organisation that interacts in any substantial way with the PRC – the People’s Republic of China – including:
    • doctors and medical institutions;
    • industry, and businesses, most specifically airlines, travel companies, financial services businesses, law firms, and pharmaceutical and insurance companies, together with individual tourists;
    • educational establishments; arts establishments
should recognise that, to the extent revealed in this document, they are interacting with a criminal state.

    1. You are really funny!
As if most of western tech companies not are making big profits from low wages countries and not so democratic countries? And criminal states? No problem with cooperation. Many dictators have been good business for big companies. Remember, Somoza, Videla, Pinochet, Rheza Palavi, Figueiredo, Rojas Pinilla, Batista just to mention a few… And also we have the Saudis…

  3. Maybe your right. MDN is about Apple corporation and Tech. My mistake for stepping outside the line. I really do wish each of you well. I had hope to engage in serious discussion but I guess that’s no longer a thing. To be honest I consider the other side and have learned a lot from everyone. Seriously

I’m no longer an Apple user so I I guess I should not be here anyway. Good luck in all you do. May God shine his blessings on you and yours!

    Peace I’m out
