Apple’s 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro is already selling out

The wild session of Day One pre-orders for Apple is being seen in iPhone 12 Pro, in particular, with the new iPhone’s estimated delivery dates slipping around the world.

William Gallagher for AppleInsider:

The Apple Store didn’t start taking pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro until some minutes after the advertised 08:00 ET time. Then it appears to have immediately been hit with more orders than can be fulfilled by the earliest delivery date of October 23.

Customers in the UK report that within three to four minutes, some models and configurations saw delivery dates slipping back one and then two weeks. US customers appear to have fared better, but worldwide it appears that Apple is already unable to keep up with initial demand on time.

In France and Australia, the date is no longer shown as October 23, but instead listed as 5-7 working days. That “working days” part is key, as it means the date may actually have slipped to Monday 26.

That’s still better than the situation in the UK. There the iPhone 12 is now available for delivery on November 2-9 at the earliest.

  1. So, what’s the tech news media take on this sell-out? Simply not enough iPhones were made to begin with? Although I’m sure there was some snickering going on when Tim Cook asked the factories to start out with 45 million 5G iPhones. The news media was laughing about how Apple would never need that many iPhones with the raging pandemic everywhere and not enough stimulus money to go around.

Yeah, the news media made Tim Cook out to be the fool, as usual. I hope those Apple-doubting knuckleheads eat dirt. Apple is the only $2T company but far too many people have huge doubts about whatever decisions Apple makes.

It sure doesn’t seem as though consumers are bent out of shape over Apple not putting a charger and earbuds in the box. I never thought they would be upset. I’m personally glad they did away with them. Most consumers don’t need all that extra e-waste. Apple will be severely mocked now, but in two years, the rest of the smartphone companies will follow Apple’s example, I’m willing to bet.

  2. I ordered at 8:15 EDT, had a number of issues with system response, but after about 5-6 minutes my order for iPhone 12 Pro in Pacific Blue was placed. Picking up from local Apple Store on 23 Oct!

  3. Waiting til Nov 6 right after the election to order my 512GB iPhone Pro Max at 5am Pacific from Xfinity Mobile. Just adding a line From FreedomPop so Incan get $250 off the 24 month Zero Interest loan.

  4. Waiting for November 6 to order the Pacific Blue 512GB iPhone Pro Max from Xfinity Mobile. Adding a new line from FreedomPop to get $250 off the two year zero interest loan and no extra charge for the second line via adding a new line from FreedomPop. So I wind up with two iPhones for the price of one. Xs Max and 12 Pro Max. $12 buys a gig of cellular data you don’t need if you use WiFi 6 all the time. Talk and Text are unlimited free. Bust deal out there. They run on the Verizon network for a fraction of what Verizon charges.
