Apple’s head of worldwide video’s Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht landed another hotly contested movie. [Firday marked] the Apple TV+ debut of the Aaron Schneider-directed Tom Hanks’s starrer Greyhound, and Apple Studios also landed the Antoine Fuqua-directed Will Smith starrer Emancipation, and the Martin Scorsese-directed Imperative-produced Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. They’ve also got on the TV side Masters of the Air, the limited WWII series exec produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Playtone’s Hanks and Gary Goetzman.

MacDailyNews Take: Now, with Snow Blind, the wins for Apple TV+ keep piling up!

Those who can wrap their heads around Apple’s massive cash mountain and the company’s unparalleled ability to generate cash can clearly see who the winner will be.

The most talented producers, writers, directors, editors, actors, etc. are attracted to exactly what Apple has and makes in vast abundance: Cash. The king.

Like bears to honey, it’s happening already. — MacDailyNews, January 3, 2018

  1. Why don’t they have other movies that came out in theaters? Apple TV is so weird. Why don’t they have, like, old movies and sitcoms? The stuff that isn’t produced by Apple? I’ve never seen a service so devoid of content. I understand they may not want junk, so give us the classic stuff that everybody still loves. They sat back and let other companies buy up the old favorites like Seinfeld. Give us some of the best drama series. Don’t want to be known for crappy movies? Then give us the great ones from the best directors. A limited selection is fine but don’t pass on EVERYTHING and wait to make it all yourselves. It will take two decades to build a library like that.

    1. Lots of places to watch old shit already, without using any streaming service. Apple has chosen the path of new material and so have I. Having watched almost all of their original content, and enjoyed every one, I like the path they have chosen. There’s no shortage of reruns to choose from on multiple cable channels already. We don’t need another source for Friends and Seinfeld episodes

      1. Seinfeld will soon become the exclusive domain of Netflix in terms of streaming every episode whenever you want. That is a HUGE deal, and would’ve been a tremendous landmark asset to Apple. Seinfeld may be on cable but it makes no difference to the growing number of people who don’t have cable anymore.

Also I already said that they can be picky in selecting their purchased content, so that’s no excuse. You can offer a heavily curated experience rather than the tumbleweeds that are rolling through Apple TV Plus right now. Offer Oscar-winning favorites or only movies that make the Film Critics Association list. I don’t care. But to say “We’re only doing stuff we produce” is absurd. There’s too many good movies and shows from major studios that Apple will never carry. A course correction is unavoidable.

        1. I gotta bad feeling about you, R2. Too much of the dark side thinking flowing thru you.

Pointless jealously of Netflix is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to buffering.

          Chill bro.

        2. Why would I be jealous of Netflix? I’m a Netflix subscriber, and the Seinfeld deal is part of the reason why they’ll continue getting my money every month while Apple won’t.

    2. Takes time to build up, bro. Apple ain’t gonna just spend $150 million for a limited run of Friends or some old TV show.

They’ll just buy someone’s entire content library.

      You gotta think bigger, R2.

I’m surprised at you, you can hold the secret to Luke’s whereabouts but you can’t see that Apple is much bigger than a bunch of old re-runs?

Sheesh. I know I donated some of my circuits to you but they’ve obviously grown to be a bit faulty.

      1. “They’ll just buy someone’s entire content library.“

Yeah that’s been the rumor for years—when is it actually going to happen, though? There have already been a few opportunities to buy large libraries that Apple let pass without budging. Are you sure that’s their intent or is this wishful thinking on your part to rationalize all the empty space you see whenever you access Apple TV Plus?

    1. Cue another Eddie hater.

Fear is the path to the dark side of hating Eddie. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to buffering.

Don’t think that playing with yourself doesn’t make you a master hater.
