Apple Retail Stores have become a target of rioters and looters during the ongoing protests across the United States, with some Apple Store storefronts being significantly damaged, with the contents of some locations being completely cleaned out by looters.
Over a period of many years, Apple spent over $30 million to restore the Carnegie Library for the people of Washington, D.C. To restore the building to its original grandeur, Apple worked with conservation experts to carefully preserve the historic facades, return interior spaces to their original footprints, and restore distinctive early 20th-century detailing. Foster + Partners worked in close collaboration with Apple’s Chief Design Officer Jony Ive to give this cultural icon a new lease of life. Apple Carnegie Library opened on May 11, 2019.

In Portland, Oregon, the Apple Store at Pioneer Place had its 30-foot tall windows smashed on all sides, images and details provided to AppleInsider by “Nate” reveal. The store had opened up just two days prior, and it will require extensive repairs to the outside before it can open up again to customers.
A video of the same store recorded by Zane Sparling of The Portland Tribune shows people getting into the darkened store and running away with Apple products, including both display table units and stock left on shelves.

Protestors have also caused damage to an Apple Store in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday night, alongside other businesses and restaurants in the Scottsdale Waterfront area and Scottsdale Fashion Square, according to ABC15. Video was recorded showing dozens of people rushing in to the Apple Store after breaking into the entrance, again in a bid to take iPhones and MacBooks.
As part of its security policies, Apple uses special versions of its devices for its demonstration models, which are locked down to only work within the store, and cannot easily be made to work conventionally. This means the looting will be of very little benefit to those grabbing products from the desks.
MacDailyNews Take: These vandals and looters are, for the most part, not protesting police brutality towards African Americans. They are anarchists, doing what they’re doing for other reasons, who should be prosecuted to the maximum fines and sentencing allowable by law.

Speaking of terrorists… I thought I had lost my ability to be surprised by anything President Trump might do. Apparently not. Shortly after 6:30 PM EDT on June 1, 2020 (a date of infamy) he was in the Rose Garden saying,
“I will fight to protect you. I am your President of law and order and an ally of all peaceful protesters.“
As he was saying this, police and soldiers acting pursuant to his personal directive were using tear gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets to drive hundreds of those same peaceful protesters from Lafayette Park in front of the White House. It was a space open to the general public and not subject to any dispersal orders or curfew at the time. The people had the constitutional right to assemble there and petition for regress of their grievances. There was no public safety reason to use force against them. Aside from the constitutional issue, it was (in my opinion as a former prosecutor) a criminal assault.
At the end of the Rose Garden speech, the reason for the police riot became apparent. The President wanted to walk out the front gate of the White House, as he never had before, and cross the park and H Street to St. John’s Episcopal Church for a photo opportunity. The Rev. Gini Gerbasi, Rector (Senior Pastor) of St. John’s, said the clergy was given no warning the President was coming. She told WUSA she was wearing her clergy collar when she was forced off the property due to the tear gas.
On arrival at the church, President Trump stood there with a Bible in his hands and made a few comments about how great America is. As AP described it,
“He didn’t talk about George Floyd, the church or the damage it had suffered, or the peaceful protesters police had cleared. He said nothing about the coronavirus pandemic, the parallel crisis that has continued to ravage the nation as Trump campaigns for a second presidential term. Then he invited his attorney general, national security adviser, chief of staff, press secretary and defense secretary — all white — to join him for another round of photos before he walked back across the park to the White House.”
In one excruciating moment, The President of the United States desecrated both the Constitution and the Bible. He trampled one while he used the other as a meaningless prop. On her return, the Rector of St. John’s accused the president of trying to “look Christian” by holding a Bible in front of the church. “It would be far more Christian if he would behave according to the words in that book rather than carrying it around as a prop,” Gerbasi said.
The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, who has jurisdiction over St. John’s, was obviously flabbergasted, saying, “The President just used a Bible and one of the churches of my diocese as a backdrop for a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything that our church stands for. To do so, he sanctioned the use of tear gas by police officers in riot gear to clear the church yard.”
Are we really surprised to learn that our President began his working day by having a telephone conference with President Putin and ended it with a show of dictatorial force?

Yesterday, in Austin, TX I35 was blocked both ways for hours. Finally, a heli overhead announced teargas would be dropped if people didn’t clear. Was it out of kindness and consideration to delay the warning? Or guilt, as if “we need to give them their protest time—it’s the least we can do.”
In MN, to let a Police precinct be destroyed..was it the fear of a bad image if the cops would have forcefully defended their grounds? After all, they should have enough non-lethal deterrents stored somewhere?
Does lethal action/protection have no such place in such circumstances IF measured, cautious and clear forewarning of action proceeds? I see is the lack of response as conditioning for future replays of destruction.
If you know about the I-35 blockage, you also know that there are two people currently in Austin Intensive Care after being hit by police beanbags. People also die quite regularly from tasers and teargas. All these alternatives to firearms are officially called “less-lethal” rather than “non-lethal” for a reason. They are only justified as a next-to-last resort. Deadly force, even by a peace officer, can only be justified by a reasonable fear of an imminent threat to human life.

We were talking about using force against crowds, not about using force against specific individuals who are committing certain property crimes… and blocking a highway is not on the list. In Texas,

To my best recollection, there was no Apple product being used to harm George Floyd during that arresting incident but apparently these idiots have some beef against Apple. Apple is one of the few companies who were hiring employees during the pandemic but these people aren’t happy with that and so they’d rather just destroy a place where people need to work.
I know many people aren’t happy with the saying about when the looting starts, the shooting starts, but maybe that isn’t such a bad idea if criminals are going to damage and destroy public/private property when the world situation is already as bad as it is.
