Apple Retail Stores smashed and looted amid widespread riots

Apple Retail Stores have become a target of rioters and looters during the ongoing protests across the United States, with some Apple Store storefronts being significantly damaged, with the contents of some locations being completely cleaned out by looters.

Over a period of many years, Apple spent over $30 million to restore the Carnegie Library for the people of Washington, D.C. To restore the building to its original grandeur, Apple worked with conservation experts to carefully preserve the historic facades, return interior spaces to their original footprints, and restore distinctive early 20th-century detailing. Foster + Partners worked in close collaboration with Apple’s Chief Design Officer Jony Ive to give this cultural icon a new lease of life. Apple Carnegie Library opened on May 11, 2019.

Malcolm Owen for AppleInsider:

In Portland, Oregon, the Apple Store at Pioneer Place had its 30-foot tall windows smashed on all sides, images and details provided to AppleInsider by “Nate” reveal. The store had opened up just two days prior, and it will require extensive repairs to the outside before it can open up again to customers.

A video of the same store recorded by Zane Sparling of The Portland Tribune shows people getting into the darkened store and running away with Apple products, including both display table units and stock left on shelves.

Protestors have also caused damage to an Apple Store in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday night, alongside other businesses and restaurants in the Scottsdale Waterfront area and Scottsdale Fashion Square, according to ABC15. Video was recorded showing dozens of people rushing in to the Apple Store after breaking into the entrance, again in a bid to take iPhones and MacBooks.

As part of its security policies, Apple uses special versions of its devices for its demonstration models, which are locked down to only work within the store, and cannot easily be made to work conventionally. This means the looting will be of very little benefit to those grabbing products from the desks.

MacDailyNews Take: These vandals and looters are, for the most part, not protesting police brutality towards African Americans. They are anarchists, doing what they’re doing for other reasons, who should be prosecuted to the maximum fines and sentencing allowable by law.

      1. Thugs. I wonder if George Soros is contributing to some of the chaos. Other than that, I believe most of the people doing the looting and vandalism are local thugs doing what they normally do but on a larger scale.

      2. Here’s an instant classic, destined to be played over and over again as a symbol of the ignorant liberal.

Unfortunately these kids are symbolic of a lot of recent and current college kids who have moved further to the left and have no idea what that really means. “We’re on your side. We’re on your side.”

Really? You’re on the side of rioters? Enjoy sucking on those bricks, kiddo!

Don’t worry, mommy and daddy will pay for new windows and you can continue to be ignorant, playing beer pong.

    1. Speaking of terrorists… I thought I had lost my ability to be surprised by anything President Trump might do. Apparently not. Shortly after 6:30 PM EDT on June 1, 2020 (a date of infamy) he was in the Rose Garden saying,

“I will fight to protect you. I am your President of law and order and an ally of all peaceful protesters.“

As he was saying this, police and soldiers acting pursuant to his personal directive were using tear gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets to drive hundreds of those same peaceful protesters from Lafayette Park in front of the White House. It was a space open to the general public and not subject to any dispersal orders or curfew at the time. The people had the constitutional right to assemble there and petition for regress of their grievances. There was no public safety reason to use force against them. Aside from the constitutional issue, it was (in my opinion as a former prosecutor) a criminal assault.

At the end of the Rose Garden speech, the reason for the police riot became apparent. The President wanted to walk out the front gate of the White House, as he never had before, and cross the park and H Street to St. John’s Episcopal Church for a photo opportunity. The Rev. Gini Gerbasi, Rector (Senior Pastor) of St. John’s, said the clergy was given no warning the President was coming. She told WUSA she was wearing her clergy collar when she was forced off the property due to the tear gas.

On arrival at the church, President Trump stood there with a Bible in his hands and made a few comments about how great America is. As AP described it,

“He didn’t talk about George Floyd, the church or the damage it had suffered, or the peaceful protesters police had cleared. He said nothing about the coronavirus pandemic, the parallel crisis that has continued to ravage the nation as Trump campaigns for a second presidential term. Then he invited his attorney general, national security adviser, chief of staff, press secretary and defense secretary — all white — to join him for another round of photos before he walked back across the park to the White House.”

In one excruciating moment, The President of the United States desecrated both the Constitution and the Bible. He trampled one while he used the other as a meaningless prop. On her return, the Rector of St. John’s accused the president of trying to “look Christian” by holding a Bible in front of the church. “It would be far more Christian if he would behave according to the words in that book rather than carrying it around as a prop,” Gerbasi said.

The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, who has jurisdiction over St. John’s, was obviously flabbergasted, saying, “The President just used a Bible and one of the churches of my diocese as a backdrop for a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything that our church stands for. To do so, he sanctioned the use of tear gas by police officers in riot gear to clear the church yard.”

Are we really surprised to learn that our President began his working day by having a telephone conference with President Putin and ended it with a show of dictatorial force?

      1. You don’t miss a chance to put a bullshit spin on anything, no matter the time or circumstance.

Did you even see the protest the night before?
Did you even see when the Secret Service men were injured?

I know your answer to both of these is yes.
I know you will reply that you have stated facts.

I also know how repugnant you are and would love to see this entire country burn to rid you and your Socialist cohorts of Trump.

You can deny it all you want, that’s what paid lairs do….

        1. Of course I saw the night before. Those weren’t the same people that Trump had attacked. Evidentially for you and Trump, any crowd including non-white faces will do.

Of course I reject the use of violence by rioters and looters. Of course I support the proportionate use of reasonable force to stop rioters. I have seen riots. I have trained peace officers to deal with riots. Rules 1, 2, and 3 are all “Try to deescalate while using only the minimum use of force.”

You do NOT announce a 7 pm curfew and attack a peaceful crowd with less-lethal weapons at 6:35. If any cop in the departments I advised did that, he would be out of a job and probably in jail.

I don’t understand why you think Americans should regard thugs in high places any differently. When the people at the top reject the rule of law, it invites those at the bottom to do the same. Waving a Bible around while trespassing on church property does not excuse it.

        2. Who’s buying the bricks?

          https://twitter.com/Balance_In_Life/status/1267328253737472000

Follow the money straight to Soros.

      2. The ex-lawyer that has the need to write on political matters, vs tech, is obviously preparing for his upcoming release of his drama book series. They will be sold at your local 7-11’s and CVS’s…at least those that haven’t been burned/destroyed.

He’s still in heavy regret for not being able to put his stamp on “The Dossier.” He said he’s committed to the Trump-as Russian-Asset thing, but now is not a good time for a related book. He’s considering a Putin/Trump love story though. “Collusion: Warm, Wet and Hot“ is a possible title. Wish him luck…he’s bough to find success in the Drama and Love section.

        1. I would love to go back to posting tech comments. I will do so as soon as other folks here stop posting untrue statements and expecting those who know the facts to remain silent while they spread their poison.

        2. Truth! Your mind is very clouded to think the following is nothing but hyperbole, exaggeration and bizarre association…..

          “Speaking of terrorists…”

To then follow with the cute reference to Trump’s convo with Putin and the implied meaning is very much the “poison” your are supposedly here to protect us all from.
Btw, you’re not a hero that’s needed to “protect” us/me from the dangerous writers here…esp when you write posts full of opinion and implication yourself. There must be better avenues, sites, groups for you to really make a difference and to fulfill your savior-impulse?

Speaking of facts and collusion and The Dossier and Trump as Asset…How are your facts holding up with these matters? It appears that you’re not very malleable to info contrary to your bias. That’s a sign of a good drama writer.

      3. But to be fair, the Bible contains Fascist passages; TinyHands may have been called to reference them as code to his Fundie fascist militias.

“…Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves. Numbers 31:17-18.”

“He [Josiah] executed the priests…on their own altars, and he burned human bones on the altars to desecrate them…. He did this in obedience to all the laws…found in the LORD’s Temple.”

“You may purchase male or female slaves…also purchase the children…[and] treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT”

I could not find any references to democratic governance in the Bible.

    2. While anarchists are freely out and about, we are banned from dangerous churches. Maybe Antifa can burn a few churches down so governors won’t have to close them. Good thing Facebook and Twitter protect Antifa. Glad Twitter is censoring Trump.

    1. It doesn’t. It increases racism but the people pulling the strings on this BS don’t care about that, they ONLY care about power.

WhyTF Blacks continue to support these cultural slave owners is beyond me.

So many folks wonder why companies don’t invest in these areas. Here’s your answer: It isn’t racism, it’s good business sense.

Yes I know, those who have no argument will revert to the only kneejerk response they have and color me racist.

Look how far THAT attitude has gotten us….

    2. Isn’t a reasonable follow up your question WTFr , how does permitting “rioting, looting and property damage” (or permitting the blockage of an interstate) undo racial bias?

Yesterday, in Austin, TX I35 was blocked both ways for hours. Finally, a heli overhead announced teargas would be dropped if people didn’t clear. Was it out of kindness and consideration to delay the warning? Or guilt, as if “we need to give them their protest time—it’s the least we can do.”

In MN, to let a Police precinct be destroyed..was it the fear of a bad image if the cops would have forcefully defended their grounds? After all, they should have enough non-lethal deterrents stored somewhere?

Does lethal action/protection have no such place in such circumstances IF measured, cautious and clear forewarning of action proceeds? I see is the lack of response as conditioning for future replays of destruction.

      1. If you know about the I-35 blockage, you also know that there are two people currently in Austin Intensive Care after being hit by police beanbags. People also die quite regularly from tasers and teargas. All these alternatives to firearms are officially called “less-lethal” rather than “non-lethal” for a reason. They are only justified as a next-to-last resort. Deadly force, even by a peace officer, can only be justified by a reasonable fear of an imminent threat to human life.

        1. WRONG!
          What a liar.

If you think property is not allowed to be protected you have lost what little mind you have left.
          Insurrection canNOT be allowed.

God you are nothing but a tool.

        2. We were talking about using force against crowds, not about using force against specific individuals who are committing certain property crimes… and blocking a highway is not on the list. In Texas,

“A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:

          (1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41 ;  and

          (2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:

          (A) to prevent the other’s imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime;  or

          (B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property;  and

          (3) he reasonably believes that:

          (A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means;  or

          (B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.”

Nothing in there about using deadly force against a crowd, most of whom are just onlookers or passers-by.

        3. Considering you story about the Lafayette Park was fabricated why would I believe anything else you post?

You do this constantly, throw links to ANYTHING that supports your agenda even after it is proven false.

Again, you point to the reporters and claim it’s THEIR fault you were duped.

I know better. It’s you that lies and dupes people. You just used the media as a tool.

        4. If you chose to believe that what we all saw with our own eyes—the Blasphemer-in-Chief dispersing a largely peaceful crowd lawfully exercising their constitutional rights for a photo op defiling the Holy Scriptures—was “fabricated,” there is no hope for you.

At Tiananmen Square, you’d have been applauding the tanks.

        5. And were you there; to be so certain that I’m wrong? Your Hero violated the Constitution and misused the Bible. Sorry you are in denial about that.

  1. To my best recollection, there was no Apple product being used to harm George Floyd during that arresting incident but apparently these idiots have some beef against Apple. Apple is one of the few companies who were hiring employees during the pandemic but these people aren’t happy with that and so they’d rather just destroy a place where people need to work.

I know many people aren’t happy with the saying about when the looting starts, the shooting starts, but maybe that isn’t such a bad idea if criminals are going to damage and destroy public/private property when the world situation is already as bad as it is. I realize no one should be shot for stealing insured products but I don’t know of any other way to stop them. Oh, well… We’ll just have to take whatever happens and hope we’re clear of the riots.

  2. SJW Cook can reap what he sows. Burn those Apple Stores down. Stick it to the giant corporation. Burn baby burn!

AAPL donated big to SPLC, who will represent Antifa and BLM in the courts.

  3. Just goes to show you that being all PC isn’t worth a shit to these people. Face it and you know deep down it’s true. Whites hate blacks and blacks hate whites. Asians hate blacks and blacks hate everybody. If you think America is bad, just look at every other country and you see racism flourishes. There will be no changes. It gets worse. You better arm yourself while you still have a chance. The only thing these rioters will stand back atbis the business end of Mr. Glock. I’m packing mine 24/7 now and Pitt the poor fool who crosses my path with murderous intent. It will be a bad day for them.

  4. Everyone in this mess seems to prefer iPhones so this bodes well fpr Apple to continue its astronomical success, perhaps up to 2 Trillion, this investor hopes. The alleged perpetrators dressed in police black look like undercover police behaving as agent provocateurs. Each major PD has such a specialist. Police deliver the bricks for their use so that Rightwingers can then call Fox and CNN to blame otherwise peaceful demonstrators in general but also the peaceful Black Lives Matter and the equally as peaceful Anti Fascists who deplore fascism. Fascists like Donny TinyHands and his rising Brown-Shirted gangs issue special, extreme opprobrium against the latter.
