Apple today released macOS Catalina 10.15.5 introduces battery health management in the Energy Saver settings for notebooks, an option to control automatic prominence of video tiles on Group FaceTime calls, and controls to fine-tune the built-in calibration of your Pro Display XDR. The update also improves the stability, reliability, and security of your Mac.
Battery Health Management
• Battery health management to help maximize battery lifespan for Mac notebooks
• Saver preference pane now displays battery condition and recommends if the battery needs to be serviced

Calibration Fine-Tuning for Pro Display XDR
• Controls to fine-tune the built-in calibration of your Pro Display XDR by adjusting the white point and luminance for a precise match to your own display calibration target
This update also includes bug fixes and other improvements, including:
• Fixes an issue that may prevent Reminders from sending notifications for recurring reminders
• Addresses an issue that may prevent password entry on the login screen
• Fixes an issue where System Preferences would continue to show a notification badge even after installing an update
• Resolves an issue where the built-in camera may not be detected when trying to use it after using a video conferencing app
• Addresses an issue for Mac computers with the Apple T2 Security Chip where internal speakers may not appear as a sound output device in Sound preferences
• Fixes a stability issue with uploading and downloading media files from iCloud Photo Library while your Mac is asleep
• Resolves a stability issue when transferring large amounts of data to RAID volumes
• Fixes an issue where the Reduce Motion Accessibility preference did not reduce the speed of animations in a FaceTime group call

macOS 10.15.5 has downloaded onto my Mac, but when it tries installing, it shows an installation bar for a minute or two, then restarts, then wants to install macOS 10.15.5 again. It’s stuck in a loop. I freed up about 100GB of space and tried again – same thing. So… something weird going on. Anyone else having the same problem?
happened to me too, I just downloaded the full 8GB version from the Mac App Store, solved the problem.
Which is odd. I just checked and it only had the 10.15.4 version, not the newest.
Is there a way to force it to the newest?

Generally it’s best to walk away during updates. The machine may reboot one or more times. It probably wasn’t stuck in a loop. That was just your conclusion based on what you thought should happen, but you likely interrupted the update.
Yeah, no. Tried many times, walked away many times. It kept going back fo the login screen very quickly when I finally watched it, after which it would show there was an update again. So nice try at telling me that I didn’t do it right, but I did. Downloading the full version was the only way I could install it. Capiche?
My wife’s computer went into a “hang mode” and I had to do the update again. This seems to be a continuing problem with Mac updates…overcome some bugs and then introducing new ones. Hmmm!
Who are these a-holes downvoting someone’s legitimate complaint of a problem they are experiencing? Some people here are smug know-it-alls, sadly. Just because it worked for you doesn’t mean it works for everyone first go, JFC!
That happened to my mom’s MacBook Pro on the prior point release. Told her to skip it and wait for the next one.
MacOS Battery Management only works on 2016.. or later… What a bunch of crap.. original Battery lasted 6 years before I bought OWC Newertech Battery that’s way better than the original… So WUP – DEE – DOO!
What a shocker! Apple has released an operating system upgrade that works on computers that are eight years old, but some of the older hardware does not support all of the new features.
Try Coconut battery 3.9, it’s great – and free, although there’s an even better paid version
How does Coconut Battery help with power management? I specifically asked the author of Coconut Battery if he could somehow make his app stop charging laptops at 80% (exactly what MacOS X v10.15.5 is supposed to do) and he said it was impossible.
It helps by letting you know the capacity of your battery, the number of cycles and other things as well as knowing this for your devices. It was never claimed that coconut would have a battery saving mode, just that it can give you info you might not otherwise be able to get and it works on older Macs. Apologies that it cannot stop charging at 80%, yet – the developer will hopefully find a way to do the impossible.
