California Govenor Gavin Newsom plans to lean on Tim Cook, Tom Steyer, Janet Yellen, Bob Iger and others as he prepares to reopen California’s economy after the extended COVID-19 shutdown. The California task force will meet twice a month through 2020.
Billionaire philanthropist Tom Steyer, who launched an expensive unsuccessful presidential campaign, will co-chair a task force in California that will focus on getting the economy up and running again.
The panel, announced on Friday by Gov. Gavin Newsom, will be composed of more than 70 members including former Chair of the Federal Reserve Janet Yellen, Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Steyer’s co-chair will be Newsom’s chief of staff Ann O’Leary, a former senior advisor to Hilary Clinton…
Newsom has declined to give a timeline for when stay-at-home orders would be lifted, it currently extends through May 3 statewide and longer in places like Los Angeles which has an order in effect until May 15.

While you and yours were minimizing the danger, California (and California businesses like Apple) were instituting isolation policies that have saved thousands of lives. You seem to regard that as a joke.

Now that they are starting anti body testing Santa Clara the infection rate should be anywhere from 50 to 85 fold higher. So instead of the original 1,000 cases, there would be 48,000 to 81,000. So the lockdown you are touting really did not contain the virus. It is just that the lethally is much lower than originally projected.
If you extrapolate the low end across the US, the about 30 million may have been infected. That puts the death rate at about 0.1% – similar to the regular flu. We shut down the country for the flu?

If isolation does not work, why are deaths so much lower in places that locked down early? Why are they higher in places where population is dense and there was late isolation? If this is “just the flu” why did thousands of people die in the hot spots? I thought that Fantasyland was shut down.
Tel Aviv University Professor Isaac Ben-Israel is the chair of the school’s Securities Studies program, the chairman of the National Council for Research and Development and also serves on the research and development advisory board for Teva Pharmaceutical Industries.
Ben-Israel plotted the rates of new infections in nearly a dozen countries including: U.S., U.K., Sweden, Italy, Israel, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, Singapore, and Taiwan. He concluded the following:
Simple statistical analysis demonstrates that the spread of COVID-19 peaks after about 40 days and declines to almost zero after 70 days — no matter where it strikes, and no matter what measures governments impose to try to thwart it.
Analyzing the growth and decline of new cases in countries around the world, showed repeatedly that “there’s a set pattern” and “the numbers speak for themselves.”
It is a fixed pattern that is not dependent on freedom or quarantine. There is a decline in the number of infections even [in countries] without closures, and it is similar to the countries with closures.
Expansion begins exponentially but fades quickly after about eight weeks. I have no explanation. There are is [sic] kinds of speculation: maybe it’s climate-related, maybe the virus has its own life cycle. — Ben-Israel
When asked about the high morbidity rate in Italy, Ben-Israel replied, “The health system in Italy has its own problems. It has nothing to do with coronavirus. In 2017 it also collapsed because of the flu.”
Regarding what he considers to be Israel’s drastic measures, he said, “I think it’s mass hysteria. I have no other way to describe it. 4,500 people die each year from the flu in Israel because of complications, so close the country because of that? No. I don’t see a reason to do it because of a lower-risk epidemic.”
Data available on Worldometers as of 10:30 am on Saturday, shows that 158 people have died of the Wuhan Flu in Israel. The country has 13,107 cases out of a population of roughly nine million. Ben-Israel points out that, on a normal day (pre-Chinese virus), an average of 140 people die in Israel. Currently, one or two patients die every day from the virus. He argues that shutting down the Israeli economy, which he estimates will cost 20% of its GDP, “is a radical error.”
Ben-Israel said the figures — notably from countries such as Sweden, which did not take such radical measures to shutter their economies — proved his point.
Ben-Israel noted the latest indications from New York were precisely in line with his statistics that indicate daily new cases figures peaking and starting to fall after about 40 days. He said the policy of lockdowns and closures was a case of “mass hysteria.” Simple social distancing would be sufficient, he said.

Has the Professor considered that the cycle he describes might be caused by social isolation policies, rather than independent of them? Israel has very few cases. It also has the most highly controlled borders, most secure airports, and most efficient internal security of any democratic country in the world, all of which have been devoted to a particularly rigid isolation regime. In each of the countries he describes, the peak and subsequent decline followed lockdowns. Claiming that they would have happened anyway is sheer speculation.
We need MORE cases and MORE deaths. We need more isolation and lockdowns. More people without jobs. More failed businesses. More failed drugs. More failed vaccines. Then we can use all of it to blame a SINGLE individual. I hope all of those decisions made at the state (not federal) level are enough to get rid of him in November. In mid-March state and local officials painted a doomsday scenario for Californians, telling them that if they did not “shelter in place” 25 million (yes, million) Californians would be infected with coronavirus within two months, 5 million of which would require hospitalization. With the state having only 90,000 hospital beds total, clearly any scenario involving the need for 5 million hospital beds would be catastrophic.
Having heard that, Californians willingly (for the most part) went along with orders to shelter in place and to practice social distancing.
As of 3 p.m. April 18 there were 30,439 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state and 1,139 deaths, making those projections absurdly inaccurate. At the same time, 1.6 million Californians had filed for unemployment as of March 31.
Pushback against the orders has started up and down the state. Holding signs saying “We will not accept your new normal,” “Give me liberty or give me death,” and “Open Cali Now,” and shouting “Newsom must go,” protesters rallied along Pacific Coast Highway.
In many other states, especially those with intractable, power-drunk Democrat governors, pushback has also begun and will only grow until sanity is restored.

Depends on what the U.S. Military is wiling to give up. So far every war we’ve had since the Korean War has been a wash. They’d have to do worse to their own country and just a hunch, but I suspect the U.S. Military would come down on the side of the Constitution and the people and remember that the fucks and zero brains in the gooberment serve at the behest of the people. Your answer presupposes that “the gun-toting folks” have broad support among the general populace. That was the difference in the insurgencies you listed—in the last analysis, they all came down to local people standing up against foreigners who had very little native support.
I have seen very little evidence—well, actually none—that any significant portion of the populace regards the United States Government or any state government as an occupying foreign power. If an armed group chose to defy the lawful authorities, I cannot imagine that there would be a significant base of support. I would guess that most people would either assist the authorities against the domestic terrorists or would just try to stay out of the line of fire while the “gun-toting folks” matched their AR-15 derivative rifles against attack helicopters and armored fighting vehicles.

For months now, I have been chiding those who accuse their opponents here of treason. I have pointed out that this is the one crime with a constitutional definition: it shall consist ONLY of levying war against the United States or giving aid and comfort to its enemies. Two hundred years of precedent has made it clear that “war” means actual armed struggle, and “its enemies” means a formally declared hostile power.
So, what are we to think of somebody who cites the Second Amendment to call on the armed citizens of Virginia to “liberate” their state from its elected government? The phrase “Sic Semper Tyrannis” is not just the Virginia state motto; it is what a long-ago armed Virginian shouted as he called for his fellow Americans to overthrow their lawful government… after shooting its elected leader.

Virus-Panicked Liberal Gun Buyers Are Getting Angry When They Discover Their Own Gun Control Laws – April 10, 2020
I was chatting with a friend of mine recently and the topic of gun sales came up. My friend’s father owns a gun range near me and she said he’s seen a huge amount of liberals coming in to purchase weapons in recent weeks.
How does he know they’re liberals?
“They’re shocked to discover they can’t just walk out of the store with a gun.”
We’ve all heard about gun sales skyrocketing recently, but I hadn’t considered some of the tangential effects of the phenomenon until I spoke to my friend. Not only are many liberals suddenly learning to love their Second Amendment rights, many of them are finding out that the gun control narrative in this country — as repeated loudly and often by Hollywood and the mainstream media — is a complete lie.
So, I contacted my friend’s father to ask about what he is seeing personally at his own range these days. Gregg Bouslog runs On-Target Indoor Shooting Range in Laguna Niguel, CA. It’s where I taught my son to shoot and where I’ll teach my daughter once the chaos lifts. He says that while others are stuck at home while the economy grinds to a halt, he’s been working nonstop at the range as the applications for background checks and permits are stacking up daily. Bouslog claims he hasn’t done business like this since the days of Obama.
As the owner of an indoor shooting range and gun store here in California these past 14 years we have never experienced such a huge demand for firearms and ammunition – even higher than the famous Obama rush of 2012/2013.
While it’s nice to see some businesses flourishing in these scary times, Bouslog says that safety has been a huge issue at the range, as many first-time buyers seem to have gotten all of their notions about guns and gun safety from television.
We tried to look at just who the new firearm purchasers were and we believe that more than 60% of these individuals were first time buyers. I can’t describe the amount of fear in my staff as we had the buyers show proof of safe handling as part of the purchase process as required by law. You have never seen so many barrels pointed at sales staff and other customers. It was truly frightening. We had to keep stopping the process to give quick safety lessons. We are adding many more basic classes in the coming weeks and encouraged these buyers to please attend. We hope they do.
This isn’t hard to believe. As a gun-owner who formerly abhorred the Second Amendment, I can personally testify to the fact that most people who believe they are anti-gun are actually just anti-stupid. They just don’t realize they’re projecting their own stupidity onto law-abiding gun owners. They imagine that we gun owners are just a bunch of yahoos out here combing our mullets, waving our guns around to look sexy while we look for anything or anyone to shoot at any time. They have no respect for the power of a weapon and treat them accordingly, which is what Bouslog is witnessing firsthand at his range. We gun owners, of course, take safety, care and precautions quite seriously. These are ingrained in the culture of gun ownership.
While the safety of the employees at the range is a very serious matter, the most amusing and annoying part for the staff has been watching these first-time buyers discover just how stringent gun laws in California really are, including one of our newest laws requiring background checks before buying ammunition. Bouslog says it’s a bridge too far for the people who have been told their whole lives that it’s easier to get a gun than an abortion.
More than a dozen of these buyers (men and women) actually thought that since they filled out and signed everything, they could just walk out and go home with the firearm. Several actually said they saw how easy it was to buy a gun on TV and why did they have to fill out all these forms.
The majority of these first timers lost their minds when we went through the Ammo Law requirements. Most used language not normally heard, even in a gun range. We pointed out that since no one working here voted for these laws, then maybe they might know someone who did. And, maybe they should go back and talk to those people and tell them to re-think their position on firearms – we were trying to be nice.
Most were VERY vocal about why it takes 10 days minimum (sometimes longer if the DOJ is backed up) to take their property home with them. They ask why do I need to wait 10 days if I need the protection today or tomorrow? We pointed out again that no one working here voted in support of that law.
They really went crazy when we told them that for each firearm they had to do the same amount of paperwork and they could only purchase ONE handgun every 30 days. Again, we didn’t [vote] for that law.
We had people cuss at us and stomp out when we explained that secondary identification had to be part of the paperwork, as they felt insulted that what they had wasn’t good enough. We have a number of Yelp reviews calling us names and other things about how bad we are because of this whole new buyer rush,
Again, I truly hope for the safety of those range employees in the face of so many uninformed and incurious first-time buyers. That being said, I find this whole situation fascinating. So many things in our economy and way of life are shifting monumentally these days. Could the gun control battle be one of them?
I discovered the idiocy of my anti-gun beliefs once I decided to learn about them firsthand. The Hollywood mystique immediately fell away and I was imbued with a new respect for weaponry and the people who dedicate their lives to weapons safety and serving and protecting the Second Amendment. You can’t know how bonkers our gun control laws are until you go try to buy one yourself.
There are a lot of people like me out there right now — first-timers and Second Amendment haters who feel like a hypocrite for wanting a gun for protection. Like I did, now they are navigating our convoluted gun laws for themselves and discovering that it is just not possible to walk into a store, buy a gun and leave with it in your pocket.
As these revelations begin to spread among our liberal brethren in the state of California, will we see a shift in gun laws and support for anti-Second Amendment legislators? Only time will tell, but it will surely be an interesting question to ponder in the coming months and years.
It is not an attack on the 2d Amendment to suggest that it is subject to interpretation. That has happened throughout American history. The immediate cause for the Gunfight at the OK Corral was the refusal of the Clantons to comply with a local ordinance that prohibited the carrying of firearms within the town limits. Likewise for the last gun battle of Sam Bass. Nobody questioned the constitutionality of those ordinances then, though they might be considered questionable today.
Hinting that gun owners in Virginia might be justified in “liberating” the state from its elected Governor and Legislature over a question of constitutional interpretation is essentially a call for insurrection. That is not consistent with the oath that every federal official takes to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America.
