Coronavirus conference canceled due to coronavirus

A coronavirus conference canceled due to the coronavirus. The Council on Foreign Relations has canceled a roundtable called “Doing Business Under Coronavirus” scheduled for Friday in New York due to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. CFR has also canceled other in-person conferences that were scheduled from March 11 to April 3, including roundtables in New York and Washington and national events around the U.S.

The CFR’s confabs are joining a long list of canceled or postponed gatherings, including the annual New York auto show. The Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association said Tuesday that the car show will be rescheduled to late August.

Events in metro New York are coming under close scrutiny due to an increase in cases in the city and, in particular, an outbreak in the suburb of New Rochelle. The National Guard will be sent to the town to help close public gathering spaces in an effort to slow the spread of the outbreak, Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a press conference.

MacDailyNews Take: Peak COVID-19? Unfortunately, not likely. Hopefully, this thing will die out quickly, saving many from illness or worse, and then a safe, effective vaccine will be quickly developed.

  1. Jeez MDN…just stop with the “hopefully”
The WHO has just declared Covid-19 a worldwide pandemic!
Wake up there, there is major hurt ahead and you peddle meaningless twaddle whilst allowing misleading posts that are a danger to uninformed folk.
    For the last time…
Covid-19 is not flu, it’s far worse if pandemic, there are no vaccines, limited anti viral suppressant drug treatments, a shortage of intensive care beds of the right sort, equipment and qualified care workers and so on.

Haven’t we all had enough “thoughts and prayers” dissembling?

    1. Right on! I’d rather error on the side of over preparing than error on the side of under preparing on this one. This, as well, has the potential for a huge downside for many of us.

  2. MDNs takes on the Coronovirus situation are woefully inadequate and irresponsible. This is a really big problem – the UK and US are only just getting started. Anyone who thinks they can call the bottom of the market in this situation is a mug.

    1. What, exactly, is “woefully inadequate and irresponsible” about MDN’s take? Was it the linking to information on prevention and treatment or was it the hope that the coronavirus would die out quickly sparing many from illness or worse?

    1. What, exactly, is “completely inappropriate” about MDN’s take? Was it the linking to information on prevention and treatment or was it the hope that the coronavirus would die out quickly sparing many from illness or worse?

  3. “safe, effective vaccine will be quickly developed.”
MDN, you are being delusional in this case. Please get a better source for the news you get and stop listening to those who have a need to whitewash this threat.

    1. The full sentence is, “Hopefully, this thing will die out quickly, saving many from illness or worse, and then a safe, effective vaccine will be quickly developed.”

All of those words have meanings. Chopping up a sentence in order to twist it to whatever stupidity you’re trying to type is deceitful.

In their Take, MDN simply (and obviously to those of us who can read and comprehend English) hopes that the virus will die, sparing illness and death and that a “safe, effective vaccine will be quickly developed.”

Is that somehow a “bad” hope, is English not your first language, or are you just a dimwit?

      1. I am sure that hoping the virus does away (while discouraging the public concern that might help make it go away) will be just as effective as thoughts and prayers have been in curbing other threats to public health and safety.

        1. So, instead, you want us all to hope that the virus doesn’t die out as quickly as possible? Or do you just want to kill hope for everyone, generous soul?

How is providing links to CDC information on prevention and treatment, “discouraging the public concern that might help make it go away?”

Just how many magic mushrooms have you consumed so far today?

        2. When not attacking the press like its hero does, MDN expresses vague hope that the virus will magically go away, and then a vaccine will be developed.

          Hope is not a strategy.

All of the leaders around the nation have to take steps to slow the spread of the virus while vaccines are developed. They’re working without any significant leadership from the White House. Unless you count Pence urging a reduction in tariffs on all the healthcare supplies the USA continues to buy from China.

The messaging from White House officials has been to blame China, blame Biden, blame Obama, blame the media, declare it a hoax, go golfing, go fundraising, and then pressure for another Fed rate cut & then meet with bankers to work out their bailouts. Hardly the kind of health care leadership that was promised during the 2016 campaign. Nobody at Mar-a-Lago has any healthcare experience and it shows.

        3. Compared to Obama’s healthcare legacy?
That didn’t stop them from trying to change the entire system, did it?

Even Governor Newsom knows thew White House is doing all it can
          https://www.newsweek.com/californias-democrat-governor-praises-trumps-coronavirus-response-every-single-thing-he-said-1491294

Yet Sen. Schumer runs his mouth just to be on camera but then has no idea what the response is IN HIS OWN STATE! Of course this was to make him look good after threatening two Supreme Court justices.

          The Left politicizes everything.
At first Trump’s response was too much, over-reacting, and then nothing is enough.

          Bunch of shitheads.

        4. The White House that has waged war on science, health, EPA, and education? I understand that the current Coronavirus is very deadly for those humans over 70 years old. It seems those in their teens, twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, and even sixties are recovering. It won’t be the end of the human race, however Trump, Sanders, and Biden are in the dead zone.

        5. Our hero is Steve Jobs. We’ve been attacking the media with consistency since our site’s inception in 2002 whenever we believe the media is wrong, deceitful, or worse and we will continue to do so.

      2. You can’t “hope” that a “vaccine will be QUICKLY developed”
It can not be developed any faster by hoping or by the president folding his arms while saying do it faster.
We got here by a lack of planing and now we need to be realistic about it and not hope, or call it a hoax. (I know, MDN didn’t do that)

        1. Neither did Trump. HE NEVER SAID IT WAS A HOAX.

What do you want the average Joe to do? Make his own? Protest? Riot?? Kill local Chinese?

Really, what the hell does the normal person have but hope?
I guess bitch, piss and moan about others not doing enough for them is the norm for many.

The other half of us grew up….

        2. RTFA. The “hoax” is not the virus, but the Democrat’s politicization of the administrations’ response, regardless of what the administration does or does not do. A second-grader could understand this, but not if all they watch is MSDNC propaganda.

We are all in this together. we must put politics aside, stop the partisanship, and unify together as one nation and one family.

As history has proven time and time again, Americans always rise to the challenge and overcome adversity. Our future remains brighter than anyone can imagine. Acting with compassion and love, we will heal the sick, care for those in need, help our fellow citizens, and emerge from this challenge stronger and more unified than ever before.

God bless you and God bless America.President Donald Trump, March 11, 2020

        3. Pretending that President Trump and his administration are doing nothing undercuts your credibility completely.

Helpful hint: Don’t join your middle school’s debate team.

        4. I don’t know anyone who has said that President Trump and his administration are doing nothing.

His administration is attempting to get up to speed and His Orangeness, when not golfing, is tweeting contradictory information and partisan bullshit.

No wonder the extreme rightie club here thinks that all governments must be incompetent. Their favorite bligliest government in all the history of the world ever is the most incompetent of all.

Ask yourself why the CDC has no COVID-19 test kits and then square that with this line of BS:

“We are magnificently organized with the best professionals in the world,” Trump said of the administration’s preparations to help contain the spread of the virus.

“We have to take it very, very seriously … We are preparing for the worst,” he continued. “My administration has taken the most aggressive action in modern history to prevent the spread of this illness in the United States. We are ready. We are ready. Totally ready.”

Italy has locked down all nonessential travel and is actively quarantining the entire nation to try to contain the pandemic there. But Trump, obviously ignorant of this, thinks that only he, the Chosen One, is taking the most aggressive action in modern history. Must have been one hell of a 19th hole golf game, Don. That’s the only physical thing you do aggressively now that Melania has banned p*ssy grabbing.
