As yet another streaming service, NBCUniversal’s Peacock, enters the heavily saturated space, one Wall Street analyst says consumers might be starting to feel streaming fatigue.

“I think you are starting to see some [streaming] fatigue. But I think it also comes down to numbers,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said on Yahoo Finance’s On The Move.

The service is expected to launch in July and will have one completely free ad-supported version and two paid tiers of Peacock Premium… By offering a completely free ad-supported version, Peacock is attempting to stand out from a crowded field…
Ives estimated that the average household in the U.S. is spending about $35 per month on streaming services, and he believes the capacity will max out at $55 per month. For $55 per month, consumers can subscribe to the lowest tier Netflix and Hulu subscriptions, HBO Now, Showtime, Disney+ and Apple TV+. Those six subscriptions would total $53.
“Definitely streaming fatigue out there, but if you look right now, especially with the HBO coming in the spring, there’s going to be some winners and losers. But as of right now, we think Peacock’s a winner in terms of the way that strategically they’ve launched it,” Ives said.
MacDailyNews Take: As we wrote just yesterday, “The not-so-funny thing is that, if you subscribe to them all plus then a live TV streaming service like Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, AT&T TV Now, FuboTV, etc., to replace your satellite or cable TV bill, you might end up paying more!”

Not at all. I love being able to chose when I watch tv. I don’t have to feel trapped in front of the box because this is the only time something is on. As soon as I had a PVR I recorded my favourite programmers and watched when I wanted to. Now it’s even easier.

I’ve been wondering whether it might also lead to illegal downloads as consumers decide to cherrypick what suits them the most. With so many choices and the cumulative cost rising it just seems to be a possible by-product of an increasingly saturated market.
That has been happening for a while. Cherry picking because no one service has it all. Often a service only has one thing worth watching. It will keep on going unless they can shut down VPN’s and torrents.
I had hoped for more consolidation. I hoped Apple would reproduce iTunes but for television, but unfortunately everyone thinks we’re all going to subscribe to 50 streaming channels.
Still I’d rather not subscribe to cable with 500 channels of crap and 3 or 4 shows I like. I’ll just keep on using iTunes, Youtube, and Netflix. I used to want a cable news channel, but those have reached the point of absolutely worthless. Don’t much care about sports. I did light up Disney long enough for The Mandalorian, but it’s off again now.
After Picard runs all the way through, I’ll fire up CBS, binge it, and shut CBS off again. To bad there isn’t an app that manages this stuff for me. 😉

Definitely fatigued and not subscribing to more. And the thing I find interesting is that when discussing cost of streaming vs cable, few news reporters factor in the cost of Internet data when discussing the streaming option.

Fixed line yes. Unlimited. Gigabit in many cases. Mobile is often limited.

I don’t watch programming to teach me liberal BS that infuriates or offends me. When Netflix ran a blasphemous comedy where Jesus was sexually disoriented and Mary a slut on Christmas we shut quit giving that stream of moral sewage access to our home. I also find it amazing that Apple thinks paying $5 to $10 for a movie is reasonable. When there are hundreds of movies on Hulu that is not reasonable market pricing. I got free AppleTV+ when I bought a laptop but the rabid liberal slant offends me. Apple would do well to stay out of politics and sexual disorientation proselytizing.

I don’t subscribe to any of the movie streaming, but have Amazon Prime and it includes some streaming without paying for the full streaming service. So I get a bunch of B movies and old TV series and can pay $3 or $4 bucks per movie if I want a popular movie. So that is more than enough for me. Talking to friends seems even the paid subscription services are full of a lot B movies so guess I’m saving money with basic Prime. Prime besides the fast shipped, some video, also includes some music. FWIW I still buy BluRay’s of movies and CD of music I really like.
That’s why so many people have Amazon Fire TV Sticks… They have apps that allow for streaming stuff for free, albeit with questionably legality…

We got what many(but not all) wanted. A la cart channels that you can watch when you want to. No more cable tv bundles for channels you didn’t want or need.
