Juli Clover for MacRumors:

When the Mac Pro was released on December 10, Apple promised that an 8TB SSD option would be available in the near future, and as of today, it’s possible to choose the 8TB upgrade option when customizing a ‌Mac Pro‌ on Apple’s site.

The 8TB SSD upgrade option is priced at $2,600 when adding it to the base ‌Mac Pro‌ model, which ships with a 256GB SSD.

MacDailyNews Take: That’s not a bad price. 🙂

    1. OWC’s SSD is takes a PCIe slot. It does not fit into the Mac Pro’s standard SSD slot. Also OWC’s SSD does not go through the T2 chip for automatic data encryption.

It will be interesting to see if OWC’s SSD can be used reliably as a boot drive as things move forward and Apple implements software/firmware upgrades/bug fixes to the new Mac Pro.

    2. Correct. Apple thought if they made the thing expandable then then could get away with not making it upgradeable.

The onboard SSDs are married to the T2 hardware. No upgrading your boot device, and you can’t leverage the additional disk slot for “extra disk” either. Gonna have to eat a slot if you want more disk.

  1. I’m wondering if anybody got a track pad with their 2019 Mac Pro. I didn’t.
The included booklet shows that you get one. Unpacking videos on youtube show people getting one in a box with the mouse. My mouse box only had a Lightning cable with it.
