Apple’s all-new, insanely-powerful Mac Pro it thought of by many as being an American-made product, but shipments outside of North America are assembled in China.

One early order for the Mac Pro in France was delivered on Monday, MacGeneration revealed, but evidently it wasn’t produced in the same factory. An inspection of the casing reveals the text “Designed by Apple in California, Assembled in China.”
It is likely Apple is only employing the Texas facility for orders within North America, while assembly partners in China will be handling the rest of the world. In June, it was reported Apple had signed with contractor Quanta Computer for assembly, using a factory near Shanghai.
MacDailyNews Take: Makes sense as it would likely be quite difficult for the Texas facility alone to assemble enough units, not to mention the cost savings on shipping those weighty beasts and potential import tariffs.
Well I’m not surprised. Get the publicity and then back to the real world.

I get your dislike of Trump, but it seems like you’re insinuating the “interference” was Russian and was enabled/promoted because of a Trump influence/connection?
If so, what kind of an investigation, or moral or legal authority do you need to be convinced/assured otherwise? There’s been a fair amount of people looking into it that have said, “no,” or at least concluded there’s not enough info to proceed with legality. Remember…innocent until proven guilty…in-spite of your dislike of the person.
Let me guess…you find no concern, see no material relevance in the infamous dossier as having an unwarranted “gerrymandering or interference” effect (or attempt to effect) at on the ’16 election? The dossier “enabled” broad-reaching “interference” on US citizens and it has been proven recently to have NOT been founded on “ethics and reason”…but few, to none, of those touting it’s authenticity/value, have been people of ethics as crickets have prevailed…except with excusing conditions (Comey).
I guess you might be one that believes Trump’s campaign “call-out” to Putin/Russia to provide info on Hillary’s servers is/was evidence, or at least implied a Trump/Putin connection/collusion? I hope not. If so, you will forever be one to never take seriously. I know some people have a hard time perceiving a joke. You might be one.
Lastly, I notice you’re taking the self-vaulting high ground again by including yourself with those embracing reason and ethics, leaving those who aren’t “so gifted” as a lesser human? Btw, the World isn’t ending, nor will it end whatever candidate wins in 2020. Also, Russia will likely have their noses in the ’20 election–as they have for decades.

Maybe 50,000 will be ordered in December and then another 50,000 in January and then a manageable 25,000 will be ordered per month after that. Remember- 16,500 computers per month at $12k each is 2.4 BILLION per year. The ONLY company on the planet that that is a small number is Apple.
You cannot go from 0 to 100 mph and then back to 50 mph Texas- that would be a nightmare for Apple. In contrast- in the China they could run some Pros down the Mini line for a few months, no problem. And, remember a 2.4 billion dollar manufacturing plant in Texas is pretty good.
One last thing: remember what Cook said: just because you have several “data points” you don’t have the full picture.

Apple sells about 16 million Mac computers per year. 1% of that would be 160,000 per year or 13,300 per month. Just that at a AVP of 10k would be 1.6 BILLION per year.
I think the Mac Pro is special enough with a pent up demand that the actual numbers would be higher than that so that’s why I choose the numbers I did. Maybe 2% is going to be too high but I think the Mac Pro will be a big success, and I’m like MDN- I think the flagship will help sell other Macs.
What I think Apple should do is:
1) update ALL Macs on a yearly basis and have a price/spec adjustment every six months.
2) have a Mac “corporate box”- a larger mini with user replaceable storage, ram, and video cards, with a few more ports.
3) make the iMac a little thicker with a door for ram and storage upgrades but be cooled enough where the maxed out processor never throttles.
It’s pretty darned clear that the Texas plant cannot produce the new MacPro at a cost effective price, hence “Made in China” for the rest of us.

I’m sorry you feel that way because here in the Southeast we manufacture a lot of stuff in a competitive market- everything from BMW and Volkswagen cars to Deere and Kobota tractors and even Honda lawn mowers. These are foreign owned companies that can make a profit manufacturing in the United States. Many, many corporations both foreign owned and American owned manufacture all kinds of stuff here in the southeast- Gulfstream in Savannah and Boeing in Charleston for example.
On a high value added product like a Mac Pro, Apple can and will manufacture them at a profit in Texas.
The bottom line is what you believe about American manufacturing workers is false. I have confidence in the American worker. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
Boeing is turning into trash as we speak, and the price that Apple is charging for the Mac Pro they can be made in any first world country if the company Apple has the will to do so.
