The Salvation Army has made an addition in response to an increasingly cashless world.
Because of debit cards, many of us don’t have cash in our wallets these days.
But not to worry – now, making a donation to the Salvation Army on the street or at the mall is as easy as grabbing your cell phone… a new feature this year is very attractive to Elizabeth Nettleship.
“The Apple Pay for the Salvation Army is really cool,” Nettleship said.
“They’re working downtown Chicago and it’s, ‘Hey, I don’t have cash, but I’ve got my Apple Pay and I can do this right here,” said Salvation Army Major Amos Sheils. “Now it makes it really, really easy for them.”
You can aim the camera phone at a sticker on the sign over the kettle, and make the donation electronically.

This time a year I get 10 to 20 cone dollar bills so I can drop a dollar into each kettle. The idea is that it thanks every one ringing the bells – especially when its cold. I hate it when someone is standing out in the cold ringing the bell and people ignoring them as they walk by. I’ve also made sure that the grandkids have ones in their pocket specifically for the kettles. For year round we we send the monthly checks to John 3:16.
Give more than ever to the Salvation Army. After year’s of constant harassment by LGBQT groups, the Chik-Filet company has acceded to their demands that the company no longer donate money to the Salvation Army. Can you imagine that? To purposely damage an organization that has for about a century provided aid and comfort to millions of the most down-and-out? Talk about “hate groups”! Salvation Army’s crime is that is a Christine organization that adheres to the notion that marriage is limited to a union of one man and one woman. It doesn’t matter to that the gay marriage battle has been won already. These groups persecuting the Salvation Army don’t give a rat’s ass about the suffering individuals that will not receive help when the protesters have done their job and financially crippled this charitable organization.
I am pissed, not because of LGBQT or Christianity (neither a group I belong to), but because I spend about 15% of my time helping non-profits raise money to help those in need. There is so much need, and so few that will step up and put themselves on the front lines. It is work to raise money. It is work to convert money into help. The individuals in the Salvation Army donate their entire careers to helping people. These are truly selfless people. It is the nihilistic need of some activists to punish that pisses me off. To go beyond the goal of achieving a positive outcome for their group. The need to destroy, without regard to the rippling damage to innocents that didn’t even know a battle was being waged is a sickness.
Give to the Salvation Army if only to make this statement to overactive activists: “Hey! When you win your argument, your next step shouldn’t be ‘now destroy everyone that held the opposing opinion’.”
