Apple redesigned the Apple TV home screen with tvOS 13 allowing for full screen panoramic previews in the Top Shelf area. However, at the same time, it also changed the content of the Top Shelf for the TV app from the user’s personal Up Next queue to ‘What to Watch’, a selection of top television shows and movies chosen by Apple (essentially, a form of advertising).
This naturally caused a lot of complaints from users. Apple appears to have listened. In tvOS 13.3 beta, there is now an option in Settings to change it back.

Speaking of Apple TV, I have the old A5 (3rd gen) model from 2013 that I bought as a certified refurb in 2015 for $59. It’s the really tiny one, before 3rd-party apps and games, with a simple remote. It continues to provide excellent value for my needs. It does not run “tvOS” but Apple seems to send updates for its built-in software. I can watch my new Apple TV+ subscription. And from before, I can play content from paid services like Netflix, Hulu, CBS All Access, plus all the other “tiles” on its Home screen. There one for my YouTube account and one for “Apple Events” too. For anything else (I can’t play directly), if I can play it on my iPad, I can usually AirPlay it to my Apple TV’s HDTV screen. It’s old but not obsolete.
