Marty Edwards for Apple World Today:
Dictation by Blueshift has been released on the Apple App Store. The developer was kind enough to give me a prerelease version to test. Voice dictation has always been one of the most valuable features of the iPhone. Dictation is much more than a recording app. As you record, it transcribes in real time…
Dictation offered the best live audio transcription I’ve ever seen on a smartphone. Google recently released the app Record for their Pixel line, which also does live transcribing, but I found Dictation on the iPhone to be far more accurate…
One of the strengths of Dictation is that it can import audio files to transcribe. One of the great features is that all transcription is done on the device. Dictation leverages the power of Apple’s A series chips. You do not need an Internet connection.
MacDailyNews Take: We’re going to put this one through its paces as we imagine it might be very nice for generating Apple keynote addresses and conference call transcripts, among many other things!
Apple World ….
Just the fact that it does it all on the phone, no info sent to anyone. Yes!!
Just tried it. Not bad for automatic speech to text. Give Otter a try as well. It seems much more accurate at this time.
$20 a year? I don’t think so.
Otter costs US$10 per month for 6000 minutes and it’s cloud based. Dictation by Blueshift is a steal in comparison and cloud-free!
Just press record does transcription. No subscription fee. All on the phone. It uses the operating systems built in dictation libraries. Quality of transcription is not great. But it’s a one time fee so there is that.

You say of Just Press Record that “Quality of transcraption is not great”. Well, that’s how I’d misspell your statement, which it has to be said, says it all. You want crisp transcription, not crap transcraption, and if you want to carp on about it, well, just press record and record all day long.
The problem it that this isn’t much better than Apple’s built-in, and FREE dictation software. The question is how often someone will use it. If it’s a few times a year, and for nothing important, then even $20 a year is too much. If it’s once a week, and it is important, then $20 a year is cheap.
But it doesn’t seem all that much better.
