Apple Inc has started selling its popular iPhone XR phones assembled in India, as it looks to expand its share in the world’s second-largest smartphone market where it has struggled against cheaper products from rivals.

The phones are being assembled at Taipei-based contract manufacturer Foxconn’s India factory, helping the Cupertino, California-based company avoid high levies on the import of fully-built devices as well as meet local sourcing norms for opening its own retail stores in India.

IPhone XR boxes with an “Assembled in India” tag were seen on Monday in many of the country’s electronic product retailers, including Croma, with a price tag of 49,900 Indian rupees ($704) for the 64 GB version.

MacDailyNews Take: Diversification of production/assembly locales will be a boon to Apple by mitigating risk to supplies.

  1. Flash: Mac Daily News starts “assembling” new ad display on its site with greater effect on it’s readers. It’s reported that the new ads “embedded” in the article, when scrolled, actually promote readers to peruse content. Someone actually muttered to themselves, “Pier 1, …Footlocker. Oh yeah, I need a pair of XC training shoes. Yeah, I’ve liked some of the designs in Pier 1.” Did they purchase? It’s unknown, but their brain has been affected.

Curiously, like the irritating fly on the burger at the picnic, Edge” is still making site visitors irritated and repelling any interest in the ad content. Kill it/swat “Edge” is the objective. The “Edge” banner is well known, but no one knows product being sold. Long-time loves are hard to give up, I guess.
