With a new dual‑camera system, the fastest chip and highest‑quality video ever in a smartphone, and all‑day battery life, Apple’s new iPhone 11 lets users do more and charge less often.
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives released a research note last week, outlining better-than-expected demand in China for the iPhone 11. “We believe China demand is tracking roughly 15%-20% above expectations on iPhone 11 thus far and will continue to be a major driver of strength over the coming quarters,” he wrote in a note to investors following a trip to Asia to conduct channel checks with suppliers. Meanwhile, Ives believes that the iPhone 11 Pro is enjoying strong demand in the U.S.
There are an estimated 60 million to 70 million iPhone owners in China that are ripe for upgrades, according to Ives, who also downplayed concerns that President Trump’s ongoing trade war with China would weigh on iPhone unit sales.
Thanks to strong demand, Apple could sell around 185 million iPhones in fiscal 2020, according to the analyst’s models [vs. analysts’ consensus of 140 million]… Ives also goes as far as to predict that Apple will unveil four new flagship devices next year, a departure from recent years. Apple has released three new models per year since 2017. All 2020 models are expected to include 5G support and a rear-facing 3D-sensing camera system.
MacDailyNews Take: Unless there is some massive, unprecedented multi-quarter slowdown ahead of the next-gen 5G iPhones, Ives’ projection of 185 million iPhones is much closer to reality than the consensus’ laughably low figure.
Growing Apple TV and games offerings, new Pro ear buds (reported to be coming soon), Mac Pro (fingers crossed), new Apple Watch and iPads, fairly new Mac mini and portables, and nothing but positive reviews of new iPh (except price), this is the most solid line up and brief future forecast, I’ve seen in yeeears.
Though, a year or so away, the Apple glasses seem to have credible reports and, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 5G iPh’s release would be coordinated with the glasses.
Take away the tariff crap and settle Hong Kong/mainland issues and the Apple/China relationship would seem pretty rosey.
Why would the iPhone make a comeback in China? Aren’t most consumers in that country still using WeChat? I thought the major reason the iPhone was losing favor in China was because consumers no longer needed expensive smartphones to do their daily business as WeChat worked well on even low-cost, low-end smartphones. Also, there is the matter of the Chinese consumer’s preference of buying domestic products instead of foreign products. Although I wish an iPhone comeback in China was going to happen, I wouldn’t think it was possible unless the Chinese consumer’s mindset has changed drastically. I kind of thought they were fed up with American products, in general. I’m only basing my reasoning on the supposedly huge drop in iPhone sales late last year. There were quite a few internet articles claiming Apple’s days in China were pretty much over as far as iPhone sales were concerned. I also thought China’s hate for POTUS had carried over to American products.

I wonder what proportion of that demand resides within Hong Kong itself where the domestic demand might not be too high right now.
I just got an iPhone 11 Pro and am very impressed. Yes, the camera is great, but the rest of it is awesome also. The display, smooth operation, speed and even just holding it all make for a great experience. Better than I expected.
5G is from 20 to 100 tomes stronger. It has not been tested long term on gadget producing CEOs and executive vice presidents, nor has it been proven safe to the health of their electrical bodies.
