In a note to clients on Thursday, Barclays analysts estimated that Apple’s forthcoming streaming service, Apple TV+, could rack up over 100 million subscribers in a year.

Kif Leswing for CNBC:

Apple TV+ launches on Nov. 1 for $4.99 per month, offering original shows bankrolled by Apple. It’ll also be free for a year if you buy a new Apple gadget.

the free year of Apple TV+ with the purchase of new hardware will help Apple build up a massive subscriber base in a short period of time, Barclays analyst Tim Long said in the note.

Long says in the note that he sees Apple TV+ being the key growth driver for the stock over the next year…

MacDailyNews Take: It’s simple math based on eligible hardware* expected to be sold over the next year.

Given the quality of the content we’ve seen so far, and after word of mouth from the haves to the have-nots takes effect, 100 million in the first year may be a lowball estimate.

*anyone who purchases a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch enjoys one year of Apple TV+ for free. Barclays models 222 million eligible Apple hardware devices sold over the next 12 months.

  1. Only 100 million subscribers? Will that be enough for greedy investors who are mainly concerned with Apple selling about 20-30 million more iPhones each year. I hope 100 million is a low-ball figure if Apple ever expects to be removed from that troublesome “doomed” list.

    1. They got to be the most valuable company in the world while eternally being on the doomed list so it’s highly unlikely just staying there will get them off of it. Apple has always been deemed a technological smart ass and as they say no one likes a smart ass whatever their figures say and the more successful they are the greater the hate to the point it simply has little logic beyond willing them to go off the nearest prospective cliff edge rather than any semblance of objective assessment.

  2. As much as I’m looking forward to Apple TV+, giving away free subscriptions isn’t a very impressive sales statistic. Let’s see how many of these freebies turn into paid accounts a year from now…

They’ll need more than a handful of original programs to make this competitive against the huge studio streams — unless, of course, Apple was planning on buying a studio’s back catalogue…

  3. Apple TV+ equals massive lack of focus by Apple, giving away billions for no profit does not work long term. New well made hardware and software however equals massive profit….
