Apple today released macOS Catalina Supplemental Update which includes installation and reliability improvements, and is recommended for all users.
This update:
• Improves installation reliability of macOS Catalina on Macs with low disk space
• Fixes an issue that prevented Setup Assistant from completing during some installations
• Resolves an issue that prevents accepting iCloud Terms and Conditions when multiple iCloud accounts are logged in
• Improves the reliability of saving Game Center data when playing Apple Arcade games offline

Stall, resume, stall, resume, stall, resume, stall, fail. That has been my Catalina experience in trying to get this loaded. Fucking lame Apple.
It no longer “Just Works”
Anybody that downloads a first version of an operating system is asking for trouble so you have no-one blame but yourself. I got burned with OS8 when the system completely seized up. I had to ask Apple to unfreeze the whole mess. The next update fixed up that problem but there were still other issues.
So my advice is this:
Is your existing OSX version stable and if the answer is yes then stick with it for while yet.
Do you you really have to update at an early stage of an OS life cycle and if the answer if no then just stick what you’ve got.
Then what you do is follow the problems with the updates, and there always problems although Snow Leopard came really close early on). Wait for version three of the lifecycle and that’s usually a good time to update. That means that with Catalina you wait for 10.15.3 because at least by that stage the OS should be stable enough to be a reliable release.
Let me also say that even Snow Leopard’s initial release had bugs in it so let me put pay to the notion that earlier version of OSX just worked because they didn’t. It’s just that now days they’re often more unstable because they’re rolled out too quickly. IMHO
After Catalina Supplemental Update My MacBook Pro Screen went to Black. Tapped Power Button to see if it was off.. It Was Shutdown by itself! (No I didn’t Shut it Down.)
So Then Cold Boot Progressed to 75% and just stayed there stuck for over a half-hour. I Held Down Power Button to force Shutdown and then Restarted again with CMD.-R. I Ran Disk Util. on Both Partitions. Then Restarted. Screen Went to Black again but Suddenly Came up with Login Screen after about 2 Minutes. I dunno How it’s all working again considering what I witnessed. I Thought For Sure My 2012 MacBook Pro was a Goner.
This was Very Frightening and Am Very Upset with the Apple-Mac Team for The Panic Attack this Event caused me. This is The Only Mac I Have and can afford. Catalina Should be Recalled and Reworked for a couple+ weeks to address All The Install Issues I’ve seen reported. This was the Worst Apple Experience I’ve Ever Had in 25+ Years of Macs I’ve Owned, ~RpH (Mid 2012 MacBook Pro • 16GB Ram • 512GB Samsung 850 Pro SSD)
I tried to sync my iPads once I’d installed Catalina. First sync took forever as it seemingly re-backed up everything stored on the iPad. Made a small change (deleted a movie) and tried to re-sync and it repeatedly failed. Error said there wasn’t room or whatever…even though I was deleting something. Devise sync is broken.
I have had ZERO problems with Catalina since 10.15 was released and I’m running it on a late 2012 Retina MacBook. OK, the supplemental update today took a little while but so what? Got to wonder what condition some people’s machines are in before they install system upgrades.
Further, I am running Windows 10 in Parallels Desktop 13. Before installing Catalina, Parallels Support told me that Desktop 13 will NOT WORK with this OS X and that I MUST upgrade to Desktop 15 at a cost of €50. WRONG! It works just fine. But, now I am getting blasted with notifications from Parallels that Desktop 13 is not compatible and that I will not receive any updates, blah, blah. So, I’ve canned Desktop’s access to the internet. For the little I use Windows these days, I’m super happy that I don’t have to fork out another €50 to upgrade software that is only two years old. This is gouging in my opinion.
With each update (10.15 & 10.15.1), Apple has decided I shouldn’t have access to some of my files and they have decided I can’t keep them where I want them. I tried to pull some of the files from the relocated folder and I was warned they could be moved but I wouldn’t be able to see them.
I am all for technical and security upgrades but I do not understand why it is necessary to forfeit a few years compilations. I feel like I have been totally screwed here and I am going to look elsewhere when each of my 6 Apple devices are determined by Apple to no longer be of use to me.
