Italy is readying a new tax on digital companies in its 2020 budget, as it seeks alternative revenues that will allow it to scrap a scheduled increase in sales tax, two coalition sources told Reuters on Monday.
The levy will oblige multinational web-based giants to pay a 3% levy on internet transactions, the sources said, adding that some changes were possible due to ongoing negotiations among the ruling parties.
The scheme is expected to yield around 600 million euros each year, and will apply to companies with annual global revenues worth at least 750 million euros and digital services exceeding 5.5 million euros in Italy.
The new scheme will take effect from January, sources said. It will operate under a “self-assessment taxation regime” by which the companies submit a calculation of the amount owed. This will be subject to possible checks by the Italian authorities.

So, if businesses don’t pay taxes, why do we allow them to consume government services? I can pretty much guarantee that if one of these companies is embezzled, they will expect the police and courts to investigate and prosecute.
The business customers pay the taxes including those not seen on a customer’s invoice when purchasing a product or service.

Are you under the impression that undocumented residents do not pay sales taxes on their purchases or directly or indirectly pay property taxes on their residences, or that they do not pay the same fees for utilities and government services as Americans with comparable incomes?
Study after study has shown that the total tax burden on poor individuals is higher than on the rich, particularly in states without an income tax. Most studies suggest that the economic benefits to America from immigrants far outweigh the costs (even if fruit pickers don’t pay a lot of income tax, their employers do, and so do all the other people who wouldn’t have jobs if the farms closed for lack of workers).
In any case, it is absurd to suggest that because Juan Flores does not pay income tax, it is OK that Netflix, Amazon, Chevron, Delta Airlines, Eli Lilly, General Motors, Gannett, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Halliburton, IBM, Jetblue Airways, Principal Financial, Salesforce.com, US Steel, and Whirlpool paid no income tax either.
A lot more USA citizens pay ZERO taxes than illegal aliens do and they consume a lot more social services and government assistance than those illegals do.
Illegals that have jobs get almost zero from the feds. No Medicare, Medicaid, social security, food stamps, section 8, etc. Did you know which states are the worst and back far more than they pay? Dirt poor and more red than blood.
