Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming macOS Catalina 10.15.1 update to developers, just days after releasing macOS Catalina to the public.
t’s not yet known what improvements the first update to macOS Catalina will bring, but it likely includes performance improvements and fixes for bugs that weren’t able to be addressed in the first version of Catalina.
MacDailyNews Take: We’re seeing some issues with videos playing in Safari dropping audio partway through and then beach balling that Safari tab. Hopefully, that’s one of the first things 10.15.1 clears up!
Anybody know if there is a way to download Catalina manually? Because for me, trying to do it via the normal way does not work. Download just stalls anywhere from 80MB to 200MB. Then fails. repeatedly.
FWIW – I’m seeing HUGE memory leaks in the new Music.app as it is forever “Downloading Artwork…” App footprint increases by ~ 5MB a second until kernel panic.
Can’t confirm this. I opened the Music app long enough to confirm that the column browser is still missing and immediately closed it.
Support for AMD Navi GPU’s (RX 5000 series). I think I will skip upgrading my egpu to Vega 64.
The Island needs fumigating. Far too many bugs in Catalina. Boom3D crashing, continually wanting to reinstall and restart the system and stuffing up my sound prefs. Safari hanging and the beachball spinning its little heart out. Using Firefox until this is sorted. There are more but you get the picture.
I’m still trying to get through the installation process with problems with iCloud and Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD Data. Things have not gone smoothly at all for me.
This why Apple should release new OS’es every two or three years making sure that 95% of all bugs are ironed out before releasing to the public…
agreed … and please de-couple the OS from features … no reason to have to upgrade to 10.15 to leverage Apple Card, or updated notes app or whatever … the OS should be the OS …
on the positive side, having the OS a ROFS is a step in the right direction to help ensure system integrity … with IOS apps coming to MACOS, having the OS in lock-down-mode will aide troubleshooting as it eliminates endusers from messing with a factory delivered OS
I use a 512 GB external USB-C drive to install new OS’s. I am currently running Catalina from this external drive and it is faster than Mojave on the internal drive. I kept Mojave on the internal drive because all my games are 32 bit and won’t run on Catalina.. so I can’t switch them from Mojave.. I think Apple moving forward with 64 bit was a good move.. they gave a lot of advance notice to developers.. and now I get only notices from the developers not to upgrade! LMAO!! Upgrade your damn games! After Catalina becomes more stable I will reverse things putting Mojave and the games on the external SSD and Catalina on the internal drive.. What surprised me most was that Catalina actually runs faster from the external SSD than Mojave does from the internal MBP and I have a 2017 MBP.. These game companies basically end of life my games because they wouldn’t upgrade their games. I want Apple to move forward and not be hamstrung with older tech just to appease companies that don’t want to upgrade and move forward.. Seriously they could have offered upgrades at a Low price to make them work but thought that it was easier to tell customers not to upgrade and stay current! That is lazy ass customer Service ! These are Microsoft style companies not APPLE!! Apple doesn’t have to appease all these roaches that won’t upgrade their products! People that use Windows are used to mediocre systems.. I am not.. I want state of the art.. and if a company tells me that they want me to stay behind because they are too lazy to upgrade then I will consider that in my future purchases.. I like to be state of the art and I PAY FOR IT !!
You have to realize that unless it is a major money making game, developers won’t do this and especially on OSX, because real gamers, serious gamers use Windows. And that is a fact.
Well, seems like it is too buggy right now, guess I’ll wait for a couple revisions. Oh well.
There’s a big problem with the Find My app that Apple didn’t consider: see the comments in this story: https://macdailynews.com/2019/10/09/hidden-features-of-macos-catalina/#comment-2174634
