Ming-Chi Kuo: Apple AR glasses to launch in second quarter of 2020

Tim Hardwick for MacRumors:

Apple’s augmented reality headset will enter mass production as soon as the fourth quarter of this year in time for an early 2020 launch, according to a new report out today from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and seen by MacRumors.

In his latest research note with TF International Securities, the analyst says Apple will cooperate with third-party brands to launch its first head-mounted AR product in 2020, with Changying Precision tipped to be the main chassis supplier…

Kuo understands that Apple’s AR glasses will be marketed as an iPhone accessory and primarily take a display role while wirelessly offloading computing, networking, and positioning to the iPhone.

MacDailyNews Take: Hopefully, for runners, golfers, and athletes of all stripes, Apple’s smartglasses will also work with Apple Watch as we really do not want to go back to the bad old days of wearing our iPhones on our arms (especially our iPhone 11 Pro Max units)!

  1. I can’t imagine smart-glasses would be very popular with consumers unless Apple can manage to turn them into some sort of hipster fashion statement. I could see professionals using them for work but not as some casual consumer device. That’s just my opinion without seeing what they can actually do. I hope those smart-glasses will be disabled while people are driving.

    1. I should hope that they aren’t disabled whilst driving. They could display appropriate information that would avoid averting ones gaze from the road ahead to an instrument panel and thereby contribute to better road awareness
