Juli Clover for MacRumors:

We picked up a new iPhone 11 and an iPhone 11 Pro Max for an unboxing and quick first impressions overview to give MacRumors readers who are still considering a purchase or waiting on their new phone a look at the updated devices.

Our iPhone 11 Pro Max is in midnight green, the popular new color that sold out within just a few minutes after preorders went live. Midnight green is greener on camera than it looks in real life, and in some lighting, it’s quite similar to space gray.

MacDailyNews Take: Yes, the midnight green iPhone 11 Pro Max is more “midnight” than “green,” especially indoors, but it’s a very cool, unique finish outdoors in the sunlight. Did you get a new iPhone today? If so, which one, in what size and color?

  1. Got my Space Grey 11 Pro today….I’m not much of a camera guy…so the new set up doesn’t move my needle….just decided to upgrade from my X and put more memory in so I can almost fit my music collection on the 512GB. Still cannot figure out how guys carry around the Max….I carry my phone in my front pants pocket and the screen is plenty big enough (though I don’t watch any video on my phone)…if I want a bigger screen I’ll grab my iPad.

Lookin forward to AppleTV+ for $5.00/month and though I’m not gamer, the Arcade deal sounds interesting too. I think the new iPhone qualifies for a free year of +?

  2. Would have LOVED to write about my experience with my new iPhone 11, but I just had the WORST experience I’ve ever had at an Apple Store — and probably the worst customer experience I’ve ever had that didn’t involve a cable company or an airline.

I pre-ordered my iPhone 11 at 5:04am Pacific Time on day one, and arranged to pick up my new phone today (Friday) at 8pm. I get to the Apple Store at the Promenade Temecula in suburban Los Angeles — a 35-mile drive from my home — right at 8pm. I see a long line, but I figure that’s probably people who DIDN’T pre-order.

    Silly me.

Turns out the Apple Store staff are running “just a bit behind.” So behind, in fact, that they won’t get everyone in who’s already waiting on line, so I need to go home. And come back tomorrow.

“So, will I get to the front of the line, since you could accommodate me tonight, even though I did everything I was supposed to do?”

“Uh no. You’ll just have to wait like everyone else.”

    “That’s it?”

    “Uh, yeah. Sorry.”

That’s my great experience taking my 12-year-old daughter to get the experience, the joy, of getting a new Apple phone on Day 1. No real apology for making us waste a 70-mile round trip, No real accommodation. No frigging thanks.

It’s almost enough to make me go Android.

    Almost.

(But from now on, it’s shop-by-mail for me!)
