Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo this afternoon sent out a note to investors regarding his expectations for Apple’s 2019 iPhone lineup, which is set to be unveiled during tomorrow’s “By Innovation Only” September 10th special media event.
Here’s a roundup of the information shared in the report:
• New iPhones won’t support Apple Pencil.
• New iPhones will feature a Lightning connector, not a USB-C port.
• 5.8 and 6.5-inch OLED models will ship with an 18W adapter with a USB-C connector.
• The 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will continue to ship with a 5W power adapter with a USB-A connector.
• The new iPhones may not support two-way wireless charging after all “because the charging efficiency may not meet Apple’s requirements.”
• Design and notch of new iPhones to be unchanged. New colors expected (likely referring to the new colors for the XR).
• Triple-lens cameras for the 5.8 and 6.5-inch iPhones.
• All three iPhones will offer ultra-wideband support for improved indoor navigation and object tracking purposes.
MacDailyNews Take: That last bit, ultra-wideband support, is likely to support the rumored Apple Tags which will very accurately keep track of objects. We still expect to see bilateral wireless charging, allowing for iPhone to charge devices like the AirPods and the Apple Watch, but we’ll know for sure very soon!

This year will be the biggest snooze fest ever a whole lot of nothing. Apple really shouldn’t bother releasing new phones this year the current versions are perfectly fine.
My two biggest asks would be usb-c connector. At least with a usb-c / lightning cable you can charge all devices with the same charger.
Apple Pencil compatibility would have been nice.
Apple should ditch Lightning altogether. The rest of the world is moving to a unified USB-4 standard using the physical USB-C connector. It blows any prior wire and all wireless standards completely out of the water. You would have to use fiber optics or lasers to be faster, and Apple isn’t going there. They’re spending way too much time on nickel and diming their customers, playing Hollywood producers, and forcing subscriptions to bother thinking about user convenience or hardware improvements.
Apple needs to lead, follow, or get out of the way. The sooner the onerous licensing fees for Lightning end, the better. Of course you know Pipeline Timmy will wait for another 3 years before joining the rest of the industry so he can milk his little garden dwellers of every possible adapter purchase he can foist onto them!
Which manufacturer is selling this USB4 standard?
2cf48 is not wrong, saying the world is moving to a unified USB4 standard, which was published late August, and which AppleInsider describes as “essentially Thunderbolt 3”.

What 2cf48 might not know is that Apple is a key member in promoting and pushing USB4, which uses USB Type C connectors, they’re just not putting USB-C in this generation of iPhone. But, they damn well better replace Lightning with USB-C in 2020 iPhones, it would be hypocritical to do otherwise.
I have to say that if they can’t achieve those very basic improvements to at least give a semblance of progress what are all these well paid staff doing at the saucer

And as usual, CEO Cook will take the hit for a year because 12 will break records due to 5g and VR.
