After mocking Apple for years, Samsung removes 3.5 mm headphone jack and their commercial that trolled Apple

In commercials, Samsung trolled Apple for years over the iPhone’s removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Now the South Korean dishwasher maker is following Apple yet again by removing the 3.5 mm headphone jack and has deleted their ads.

Jake Kanter for Business Insider:

Samsung unveiled its Note 10 on Wednesday and, as has been widely observed, the phone falls in line with other new devices on the market in that it does not come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

It represents something of a volte-face for the phonemaker, which poked fun at Apple for ditching the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 in 2016. Samsung released a memorable advertisement in November 2017 titled “Growing Up.” It features an iPhone user… [who] ruefully inspects an adapter cable, which enables iPhone users to turn their charging portal into a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Fast forward to 2019 and Note 10 customers may need a similar bit of kit to use wired headphones with their device. And as for that “Growing Up” ad, it has disappeared from some of Samsung’s major YouTube channels.

MacDailyNews Take: Derivative follower Samsung is a garbage company with garbage ethics and, obviously, garbage commercials as that’s where they now reside.

The Internet is forever, Samsung. Deleting your stupidity from YouTube won’t make it go away.

  1. At first I was irked. My wife bought me the new AirPods for my birthday. What an amazingly slick device!!! OK, I stand corrected. I do have the headphone jack dongle to use sometimes, e.g., with my Beats headphones, but I find I hardly do so.

    1. The growing up commercial is a really good piece that does an excellent job of punching up at iPhone. It calls out the legitimate frustrations about iPhone that Samsung handled better.

I’d like to see a new spot based on the UI changes to iOS over the past few versions that make it feel more like a chore to use it. The intuitive interface was the WHOLE POINT when it was released and now I find it annoying to use.

I’m seriously considering looking elsewhere for my next phone. It’s no longer easier & satisfying to stay put.

    1. No sir that is not how mature winners behave. That is how spoiled children behave. Apple knows just what to do, what it always does. Keep making quality, reputable products that others copy and emulate.

  2. Here’s a concept: instead of spending years slowly transitioning to a Lighting/USB-C/Bluetooth forced future inconsistently, why couldn’t Apple offer at least a few models of iPhone and iPod with BOTH analog and digital ports. Is that too much to ask? Instead Apple forces Dongleworld, disposable earbuds, and for the longest time the inability to dock an iPhone into a MacBook or use the same headphones with either Mac or iPhone. WTF

    Some consistency please!
