With a little over a month to go until the next iPhone launch, we should be getting flooded with rumors about the 2019 iPhone lineup. And while there have been plenty of those floating around since January, it seems the rumor tides have now turned towards the 2020 iPhones.
One rumor that keeps floating to the top of the pile has to do with a rear-facing 3D camera system… Two of the 2020 iPhones models [are expected] to have a new time-of-flight camera lens on the back of the phone. The setup would be similar to that of the current True Depth camera system used for Face ID on the front of the phone, except it would use a slightly different type of technology that could allow it to 3D map objects from farther away. This would significantly improve its augmented reality applications and take certain camera features like Portrait Mode to the next level.
This year’s iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max are expected to have a three-camera array on the back that would include a new ultrawide-angle lens. The cheaper XR sequel would also add the ultrawide-angle lens, but will not include the third telephoto lens found on its higher-end siblings…
Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones in 2020 [each with 5G connectivity]: One with a 5.4-inch screen, another with the same 6.1-inch display as the current XR, and a larger 6.7-inch option.

As i wrote before.. i believe all this iPhone 12 talk is another attempt to take attention away from iPhone 11.. and adversely effect Apple and iPhone 11 .

I don’t care about 5G (yet). It will take some years to really take off. I am waiting for Touch ID to come back, no notch (ugly) and no camera bump (super ugly). And while we’re at it: I want that headphone jack! I don’t have nor want wireless headphones and I want to be able to listen to music while charging (without an adapter). Sorry, but sometimes it’s the simple things that make one happy. I don’t need 5G, a crispy thin device and edge-to-edge display.
You had me at Touch ID and no notch, but a headphone jack? Are you kidding me? There is absolutely no way Apple would put a headphone jack back on the iPhone. You really need to think about trying AirPods. They’re awesome.
Regrettably, you are right about the headphone jack – Apple is in pure ego-lock about it. Bluetooth headphones are a pain in the butt to set up and keep disconnecting, and sputtering at strange times. Wired headphones “just work”, the way Apple products used to.
The really pain, for me personally, is the Apple ear piece. I’d love to buy the Air Pods, but the design has never worked for me.
Per the connect issues you mention, I’ve had an excellent experience with a $30 pair of Ankey (Sound Buds Slim) and a better connection and sound experience with Aukey’s EP-B80. I’m a bitter old man b/c of all the money I’ve wasted on poor fit, poor sound and, or, lousy headphone durability. Both of these skus, by each vendor (not same, though looks similar), have been top notch. I’ve had the Ankey for 2-yrs and they’re still working well. 6 months for the Aukey, so, durability can’t be confirmed, but sound and connection dependability are excellent.
The headphone jack (to my chagrin – since I use it to plug in computer stereo speakers) is D.E.D. Samsung just joined others in following Apple’s lead (on the Note 10), so send flowers.
R2, you are most likely right about Apple not bringing back the headphone jack. But I still want one. I am so tired of Apple’s “use an adapter” mentality. I bought a MacBook Pro 15″ recently and now I need an adapter for an SD card reader (because no reader is built-in anymore), I need a magnetic power adapter (because Apple got rid of the brilliant MagSafe), I need an adapter for all the other USB, FireWire and Thunderbolt 2 devices I own and so on… I know it is sometimes necessary to get rid of old technologies go make room for new ones but Apple is focussing too much on thinness over functionality and practicality. That’s what I think. And that is why I’m still hanging on to my iPhone 6. – Maybe Apple should be brave and release an iPhone with Touch ID, no notch (but not edge to edge display), a headphone jack and make it a little thicker to get rid of the camera bump and see what happens. But Apple seems to be very scared to admit that some of the things they got rid of people actually want. – And please, stop citing Ford and his customers’ horses! 🙂

I said from the start, I said, Jony, I said, that notch ain’t a notch above, it’s a bitch of a notch. Jony, he said I should stoping notching up new reasons to bitch, he did. He was right of course, it was one of the few times over the last four decades where I was wrong. Jeez I’m humble. And awesome.
I’d like to have a Liquid Metal chassis so I don’t hide beauty in a case. Also, please reverse dumb and put the on/off on the top right of the phone. A couple of small and simple requests that should be seen in the 2020 release.
While I consider options, am I the only one that finds dropping the cursor near the far edges of the screen/text as kludgy? Speaking of kludgy, I really want arrangement of app icons to not be a hit/miss game. Why the clumsiness Tim?
I’ll be waiting for 10G and being able to make direct calls to the new moon station while frequency-frying your neighbor’s pets in the process (I’ll be wearing protective shielded headgear by Apple).
This is the issue with Tim Cook sample everyone is talking about a product that will be released this year we still have a month to go before the iPhone 11 is released. Another wasted year I don’t know why I believe in bothers to release the iPhone 11 the camera ain’t that big of a deal.
