Microsoft hires man named ‘Mac Book’ to pimp Surface Laptop 2

Andrew O’Hara for AppleInsider:

Microsoft’s ad spot for Surface features a local from Sydney, Australia, named Mackenzie Book — “Mac” Book — who compares the Surface to Apple’s MacBook Air.

Microsoft went to great lengths to find an actual human named Mac Book to denigrate Apple’s hardware. The result is humorous, if only for its inane message.

True to previous ads, Microsoft again knocks the Mac for its lack of a touchscreen, and claims the MacBook Air is “slower” with a shorter battery life.

MacDailyNews Take: No, Mackenzie. (But, take Microsloth for as much as you can get.)

Mac Book’s motherboard should’ve named him Redundant Input or Mediocre Bloatware or, better yet, Toaster Fridge.

Imagine being named “Mac Book,” but not having the good sense to use one?

Mac Book’s CPU is fried.

Does it make more sense to be smearing your fingers around on your notebook’s screen or on a spacious trackpad that’s designed specifically and solely to be touched? Apple thinks things through more than other companies… The iPhone’s screen has to be touched; that’s all it has available. A MacBook’s screen does not have to be touched in order to offer Multi-Touch™.

There is a better way: Apple’s way.MacDailyNews, March 26, 2009

To us longtime Apple watchers, Cupertino seems to be saying, “Multi-Touch on the screen only when trackpads are not part of the device.”MacDailyNews, November 19, 2008

  1. Sadly, my nephew who has a MB Air, and iPhone Xr, and AirPods, etc., etc., etc., is being forced to buy a Microsoft Windows Surface laptop because his undergrad business school requires it.

I just ordered a newish MB Air refurb, and a 480GB SSD, and new battery, and will install Bootcamp, and send it to him. It’ll meet the school’s requirements and he’ll get to keep a Mac. His old MB Air had too little RAM to upgrade.

      1. Yeah, I did consider installing Windows via Parallels, but I wanted to setup a dead simple configuration, so if he has an issue, he can boot it up in Windows 10, and take it to the school’s computer services like any other PC laptop. If you have a non-standard config, you better be capable of doing all the troubleshooting yourself.

Back in the day, I was in grad school, taking a quant class over at the B-school. They all had IBM Thinkpads, given out as part of their tuition. I had my Mac SE, and wasn’t about to spring for a Thinkpad. I had to take my final on my Mac, which I lugged to the B-school, and plugged in, right at the front of the lecture room, since back then, it was the only outlet! I had to write an Excel program before the final to calculate the Black-Scholes option pricing formula, since the B-school kids all got programs on a diskette. PC-only. So, yeah, you basically have to do all the hard-lifting if you’re going to have a non-standard config, and I’m not convinced my nephew is that kind of geek!

  2. I bet Mr. Book is happy with the financial gain from doing the spot. I’ll guess and, hope, that most MS employees are embarrassed for being connected to such marketing drivel.

  3. So.. he’s got a bowl of greasy popcorn, and touch screen. Because touching the screen is so valuable. What? If you really need that get an iPad Pro and wait till iPad OS arrives. Idiotic and juvenile spot. Fire the marketing dolts that made this. Jesus.

    1. Gawd! You just had to dis “diversity”. What a stony-hearted, right-wing git you are. How dare all those women and darkies want to participate equally in society — AND be shown doing so!

      1. I think he dissed Apple’s ad. It is possible to love people of every variety and still dislike Apple’s commercials. Maybe, Sean, you don’t think “women and darkies” are smart enough to recognize that Apple is raining a bunch of manipulative happy horsesh$t down on them. Maybe you are judgmental and hypersensitive. Do you hate all people who are right-wing? Because that would make you bigoted and prejudicial!

  4. Sadly, Apple seems unwilling to advertise the Mac. Microsoft is at least willing to advertise their product. Credit to them! At least someone in the computer business still has a bit of humor. I miss the humor from the old Mac PC commercials.

  5. they are basically identical machines, except for the software. sometimes i don’t even know why i come here you guys are so stupid. oh except the mac has extra chips to lock it down to apple only. at least with the m$ you can easily install any OS you want, including macOS.
