Dominic Sunnebo for Kantar:

iPhone XR was the top selling model in the US in Q2 2019, holding 7.8% share, with iPhone 8 and iPhone XS Max rounding out the top three best sellers.

The latest flagship models from Samsung, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10 held fourth and fifth best-selling models in the quarter.

Despite the very public trade spat between the US and China, iOS share edged up in the world’s largest Smartphone market, hitting 19.7% in Urban China.

MacDailyNews Take: Dominance.

  1. Apple’s iPhone business is basically shrinking with the U.S. as the last bastion of hope for iPhone sales. Business was good while it lasted but those good days are over. If Americans don’t buy iPhones then there is little left for Apple. Dominance? That’s like saying Lamborghini is killing it in area code 90210. No matter. Quarterly earnings will tell the tale as Wall Street will definitely be focused on iPhone sales.

  2. Dominance????? Read the article.

“The latest smartphone OS data from Kantar, for the three months ending June 2019, reveals that Android OS accounts for 80.1% of all smartphone sales across the five major European markets (EU5), and continued to see positive year-on-year growth (+0.6%pts)… Conversely iOS saw its share fall slightly in EU5 (-0.8%pts), and further still in the USA where it was down -2.4%pts.”

Steadily eroding market share is not a sign of dominance.

Moreover, what does it tell you when a 2 year old model, the iPhone 7S (officially named iPhone 8), is your second highest seller? Attempting to flog the OLED Ugly Notch $1k+ phones has proven that even MDN’s well-heeled neighbors aren’t willing to pay that much for a phone that doesn’t actually outperform the iPhone 8 in any meaningful way.

One can expect that in order to satisfy the rabid profit margin maximizers, Apple will have to do an Edition model with special real “rose gold” bezel and encrusted zirconium bits on the back surrounding the camera mega bulge.

    1. Right,MR. Can you believe they tried to sell a phone without 3G service or native apps? It’s no wonder that Blackberry, Nokia, Motorola, and Windows Phone drove them out of business!
