It’s time for Jordan to buy a new phone, so he compares the cameras on the iPhone X, iPhone XR, and the Google Pixel 3a with the help of fellow photographer and filmmaker Tyler Stalman. Is the Google phone good enough to draw Jordan out of Apple’s walled garden? Tune in to find out.

MacDailyNews Take: And this choice doesn’t even take into account privacy (or lack thereof), app quality, build quality, service availability, and so many more areas where a real iPhone trumps all of the world’s iPhone wannabes!

      1. Yes, the walled garden and single company for hardware and software is why many very smart people choose Apple. You make a good point in favor of Apple.

        1. Many very smart people also choose to not buy from Apple. Apologies if that wasn’t obvious in my first comment. That’s the thing about choice and intelligence, there isn’t one right decision or viewpoint. What is right for you may not be right for me. I choose the walled garden, it’s the best choice for me.

Your second comment makes me wonder if you understand and accept that, or are you attempting to force your opinion on everyone around you? Respectfully, you don’t get to tell me what is good for me so please don’t try and force your worldview on me. Thanks.

        2. The comment Paul made was whether the article was biased by mentioning “Walled Garden”, which is as profound a fact as anything having to do with iOS. I pointed out how it isn’t appoint of bias, but a serious consideration. What I said wasn’t imposing my opinion, it was not about opinion. It was about fact.

        3. “What I said wasn’t imposing my opinion, it was not about opinion. It was about fact.”

Then you accept that Apple’s walled garden is the best choice for many very smart people. That is a fact after all.

        4. And the alternative isnalso a fact. But a walled garden is also a false dichotomy. Nonetheless, they were not being biased by saying walled garden.

        5. PS-Please don’t put words in my mouth. I don’t believe that walled gardens are even good for idiots. In my opinion, and that of democratic values, censorship is not good, unless you censor on your own behalf.

        6. ” I don’t believe that walled gardens are even good for idiots. In my opinion, and that of democratic values”

You’re going beyond opinion. You are now forcing your worldview on me. You are telling me I’m an idiot for choosing Apple’s walled garden and that I’m going against democratic values by making that choice. You’re full of BS is what you are. You don’t get to tell others that their choices are wrong just because you don’t agree with those choices, and that is exactly what you’re doing. You sound like Trump.

A walled garden is not a false dichotomy, it’s just a choice that you don’t like and you want to force people to choose your way. Intolerant much?

Once again, you don’t get to tell me what to choose. Even though it is crystal clear you want to have that right. You don’t. Get over it.

        7. Expressing, not forcing. Or are you that insecure?

It is a false dichotomy. No one would force you to shop outside the garden, but to those so inclined they can’t. l’m not telling you what to choose, but you seem hell bent on restricting my choice in my device. Who’s full if BS?

        8. “Expressing, not forcing.”

When you call people idiots and espouse the view that their choices go against democratic values you’ve gone far beyond expressing your opinion. Typically it is people who bully others (like you are doing) that are the insecure ones. It is telling that you’re the only one who brought up insecurity. That is called projecting.

Enough with your fantasy about the walled garden being a false dichotomy. Apple has every right to deliver their products and services in the manner they think is best for their customers. You don’t get to wave your hands around saying what if we could have both an open Apple ecosystem and a closed Apple ecosystem at the same time. That is not reality. I thought you dealt with facts not fantasy? When all you’ve got left as an argument is fantasy and conjecture that’s just sad.

Once again, but I don’t expect this to penetrate, you don’t get to tell others that their choices are dumb and go against democratic values. Unless you are an intolerant bully. If you admit to being an intolerant bully then by all means say whatever horrible things you want.

        9. I said “even for idiots” that you took it personally is your problem.

You can enforce a closed ecosystem upon yourself, leave me and my personal iPad out of your rules.

        10. “You can enforce a closed ecosystem upon yourself, leave me and my personal iPad out of your rules.”

No such ecosystem exists nor will it ever exist. Enforcing a closed ecosystem within an open ecosystem isn’t possible.

Unlike you I stick to discussing facts, not fantasy.

Fact: Apple delivers products and services within a closed ecosystem.

Fact: Apple’s customers are highly satisfied with this approach.

Fact: Android is an open ecosystem (we can skip over the complex reality that no system is purely open or closed and for the sake of simplifying things for you, say that Apple is closed and Android is open).

Fact: Android customers are demonstrably less satisfied than Apple customers but they are satisfied enough that we can call them satisfied customers.

Fact: Choosing to be an Apple and/or Android customer is a choice that smart well informed people make. No one is being tricked or bamboozled into making these buying decisions.

Fantasy: If only Apple would offer an open ecosystem within their closed ecosystem everything would be great and everyone would be happy.

Fantasy: Creating an open ecosystem within a closed ecosystem would be so easy with no consequences at all and the only reason Apple doesn’t do it is because they are mean and greedy (sad face).

Fantasy: Apple not offering an open ecosystem is censorship and treads on applecynic’s right to do whatever he wants whenever he wants to do it.

Fantasy: Anyone who disagrees with applecynic is an idiot and is acting against democratic values.

You can continue to discuss fantasy, which I’m sure you’ll do more of in your next comment. Buh buh buh Apple could… and Apple should… fantasy fantasy fantasy. When you’re ready to stick to the facts I’ll be around.

        11. Fact: Bringing up the Walled Garden was not bias.

Fact: I am an Apple customer not satisfied with this approach.

Fact: Apple does NOT own my devices.

          Regarding your fantasies…
Where did you study cartoon physics?

        12. Also, and in closing. I called no one an idiot. Not even those who might deserve it.

The intellect of the user base, either way, was a construct fully brought up by you and you alone.

        13. “Also, and in closing. I called no one an idiot. Not even those who might deserve it.”

There it is. Your admission that you believe some people are idiots. How noble of you not to call people idiots, but the problem is you still think they are idiots.

I see you are still focused on fantasy and not fact, imagining what Apple should do based on what you believe is right. Pure fantasy.

As for your “in closing”, somehow I doubt it. The ego on you won’t allow anyone else to have the last word.

        14. “Henceforth you will simply get a duly noted comment on this thread.”

As expected. Your ego demands nothing less. Unlike you I can stop commenting anytime I like. Now go ahead with your predictable reply.

        15. “I do want you to know I saw it.”

That’s your ego making you my slave. You actually want me to know that you saw my comment. Just sad. Bye for now my sad little ego slave.

        16. You consider me your slave, butits my ego…

It’s all part of your insecurity and delusion, not even fantasy.

That voice in your head… that’s me!

        17. “You consider me your slave, butits my ego…

It’s all part of your insecurity and delusion, not even fantasy.

That voice in your head… that’s me!”

What happened to henceforth replying with only a duly noted comment? Bwah ha haaaaa ha haaaa!

        18. “Duly noted.”

Bwah ha haaaaa ha haaaaa! Too late sad slave. You already broke your “duly noted” comment promise. Trying to do it now after you said you’d do it and then couldn’t do it, is just cringeworthy.

        19. “When one self censors, as I did, they have discretion to uncensor. Got it troll?”

Wow! I got you again! Okay, I’m outta here, you’re making me cringe way too much.

  1. The XR is impressive – I bought one this past December (Product Red version) but don’t know how long I’ll stay with there larger size. With neuropathy in my hands it is an easy phone to drop and isn’t a good fit in my pockets compared to the smaller sizes. It was, however, the only model available for a “free” upgrade when moving to T-Mobile. (Another mistake). Come to September I’ll move to the smaller X as well as returning to ATT.

If the size is fine for your hands and pockets then the XR is an excellent phone, I also like the Product Red – Apple has used this relationship with Bono to fund over a third of the $600+ million that has gone to fight HIV in Africa.

    1. Ken, there are several natural remedies for Neuropathy, have a search on Google and try some to see if they help.

Also your larger XR screen will be better for your eyes to see the screen when you use the voice control features of iOS 13, which are incredible!

Whether conventional medicine, natural remedies, a combination of both or neither help or don’t, voice control might be a great boon to you, should you decide to try it out once iOS 13 goes gold.

      Best of luck.
