Apple today released AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.8.1 which improves the security of your base station and is recommended for all Apple 802.11n Wi-Fi base stations including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule.

Do you mean to say 7.9.1? This is the latest. Came out on May 30.

Yes, sounds confusing. Looking at the overview of updates. The 7.9.1. update on May 30 is for the “AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule base stations with 802.11ac”. The 7.8.1. update from today (6/20) is for the “AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule base station 802.11n”.
Yeah, I thought the same thing, as my Time Capsule updated to 7.9.1 a while ago.
Wait, I though these were discontinued?

Downloaed and installed the update. on trying to connect to the net immediately after completing the install, the MacBook Air told me the ‘Net wasn’t available because of a firmware error (Paraphrased). After kicking the at and cursing the fates, I decided the best course was to try to revert to factory settings, but could think if no way to get instructions for that.
Just to be sure where I was, I tried to connect to the ‘Net once more. This time, it worked. Things are looking good, the Airport reports it’s using 7.8.1.
I’ve been using Airport extreme for a wifi extender with ethernet connection to my garage from a centrurylink router/modem. This setup had been working flawlessly. New 7.8.1 update has stopped verizon wifi calling from working, internet connection still good. I switched back to the 7.6.9 firmware and it fixed the issue.
