“Apple’s developer conference beginning Monday will move the company closer to a future in which the iPhone is no longer the central cog for other products and services.,” Mark Gurman writes for Bloomberg. “Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook and other leaders will make a keynote presentation at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose to unveil updates of Apple’s operating systems and a new approach to apps.”
Gurman writes, “The changes will showcase Apple’s new generation of devices and software: Apple Watches that are more independent from iPhones, iPads with software that reduces the need for a laptop, apps that run on any Apple device, and growth areas such as augmented reality and personal health-care management, according to people familiar with the plans.”
“While the developer conference is software-focused, the company often sprinkles new hardware announcements in at the event,” Gurman writes. “This year, Apple won’t show off a new Apple Watch or iPhone hardware until the fall, but has considered previewing the new Mac Pro at the conference.”

I really should wait, but I strongly suspect each will come with its own anchor and walls.
I wonder how long I can resist installing the betas this year? I have a bad feeling it’s not going to be for very long.
Normally I wouldn’t worry about it but this year I think there are going to be so many changes and new features that the betas are likely to be less stable than usual. This isn’t a criticism, after all these are betas and no one should expect anything less.
As always, I will FAR more concerned that any changes to OSX or iOS not break the several dozen 3rd party apps that I use to make a substantial part of my living producing HTML5 animations for the web. If i had to rely on Apple apps, i would have to be gone tomorrow.
OSX currently provides the beast basic platform for the third party developers (many of them ex-Apple employees)

iO: for the most part, again its the 3rd party develpers who provide the best app interfaces. Apple iOS apps for the most part a mishmash of incomprehensible icons that require a lot of memorization if you dont use them more than once a day.
Hoping for the best, hoping that “change for the sake of change” won’t reign supreme.
I’ve had to abandon perfectly good scanners and printers I can’t get drivers for (and don’t like the GIMP equivalents at all, where I can find them – which ain’t that easy for a mere semi-power user), and their “modern” replacements are often not as good as the old ones.
Also got burned on file incompatibilities in the Apple apps – not only can’t I not share Pages files with non Mac users without creating separate export files, they keep changing the proprietary formats so they won’t open without upgrades that require the latest OS – which isn’t feasible on some way older but still perfectly functional Macs.
