MacDailyNews Take: May the MacBook Pro Supplemental Update cure all of your T2 Security Chip issues, 15-inch MacBook Pro users!
T2 chip is basically cancer on a motherboard. It’s used to lock in storage. Non upgradable storage on pro devices is a blight.
Attractive since FileVault 2 encrypts much faster and gpu runs faster as well. But seems like a work in progress so I’m passing on Mac mini for iMac.
I haven’t been comfortable with my 2018 MBP 15” since I got it because of this T2 chip. I have always had proper backups over the years, thankfully! But now I don’t know if I can count on them or not. Between T2 and APFS, I guess I just don’t know what I don’t know. As usual, this was poorly explained by Apple. The Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner websites have multiple pages trying to figure it out, explain it and make it work with their software. It is always telling of problems when these two sites have released multiple version updates. What about Time Machine and File Vault in the midst of all this? Time Machine and system snapshots? Have you tried to delete a file from your computer AND all TM backups lately? Good luck!
Is this why Apple didn’t include the T2 chip on the newly updated iMacs?
