Apple debuts LG’s all-new 23.7-inch UltraFine Display for Mac

“Did Apple just stealth-release a new Mac display?” Julio Ojeda-Zapata writes for TidBITS.

“I’m not talking about the much-rumored 6K display that the company is supposedly designing and building for use with the upcoming new version of the Mac Pro,” Ojeda-Zapata writes. “No, I’m referring to a third-party monitor, the apparently new 23.7-inch LG UltraFine Display, that, until I went to an Apple Store last week, I knew nothing about. And it seems that few others have heard of it.”

“I had a different LG monitor in mind when I arrived at the Apple Store in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. I wanted to snap up the well-known 21.5-inch LG UltraFine 4K Display, which I had heard was being discontinued,” Ojeda-Zapata writes. “To my surprise, an employee told me I should consider forgoing the 21.5-inch model. Why? ‘Because we have a larger LG display for the same price.'”

“Here’s the weird thing: I could find virtually nothing about the 23.7-inch LG UltraFine Display online,” Ojeda-Zapata writes. “It’s not listed on Apple’s online store or LG’s Web site.”

  1. Funny hey. It’s like here is a monitor don’t worry about how it looks. I guess they don’t understand the Apple market. If it looks cheap no matter how will it may perform it feels cheap. LG should lose money on each one, they should not have to be told to make a product look good. Then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That said they need to get rid of their design team, their beholding needs corrective lenses.

  2. It’s not the design that bothers me, but the lack of functionality that Apple displays used to offer. It’s the realization that Apple doesn’t give a shit anymore. You might as well hook up any black plastic displays to your Mac. There’s absolutely nothing special about the ones Apple sells.

    1. Apple displays used to be excellent docks for laptops in addition to fully fledged deluxe monitors for desktop Mac owners. Apparently Apple thinks that MacBook users now just use the Facetime cameras on their laptops instead of having a really big Apple Display that just works. So sad!
