U.S. may scale back Huawei trade restrictions to help existing customers

“The U.S. Commerce Department said on Friday it may soon scale back restrictions on Huawei Technologies after this week’s blacklisting would have made it nearly impossible for the Chinese company to service its existing customers,” Karen Freifeld reports for Reuters. “The Commerce Department, which had effectively halted Huawei’s ability to buy American-made parts and components, is considering issuing a temporary general license to ‘prevent the interruption of existing network operations and equipment,’ a spokeswoman said.”

“Potential beneficiaries of the license could, for example, include internet access and mobile phone service providers in thinly populated places such as Wyoming and eastern Oregon that purchased network equipment from Huawei in recent years,” Freifeld reports. “In effect, the Commerce Department would allow Huawei to purchase U.S. goods so it can help existing customers maintain the reliability of networks and equipment, but the Chinese firm still would not be allowed to buy American parts and components to manufacture new products.”

Freifeld reports, “The United States believes Huawei’s smartphones and network equipment could be used by China to spy on Americans, allegations the company has repeatedly denied.”

MacDailyNews Take: Balance will come sooner or later.

I’m cognizant that in both the U.S. and China, there have been cases where everyone hasn’t benefited, where the benefit hasn’t been balanced. My belief is that one plus one equals three. The pie gets larger, working together. — Apple CEO Tim Cook, March 24, 2018

    1. More incompetence from the shyt show that is Shyttezen eX, the man-thing that has one job and one job only, to shyt endless crap across the Internet and to take pride in doing so, all while claiming to represent black people, when all he represents is the contents of his shytty colon.

        1. I don’t have any hangups so I’m sorry if you are mistaken. A trade imbalance is just numbers on a spread sheet. Why is free trade a bad thing.

  1. “Balance will come sooner or later.”
Hope it’s soon enough for the farmers and retirees… actually, we could probably do without the farmers sucking on the government to the tune of 12 billion dollars AND going into bankruptcy. If you can’t make your own way farming, you need to find a new line of business.

    1. What, you think it is alright for Trump’s trade war to disproportionately affect American farmers? You’d have them all go bankrupt so Donnie can make a point and try to put a feather in his re-election hat?

If it’ll make you feel any better, USDA is prepping another $15-20 billion in farm assistance to cover lost sales from round 2 of the tariffs.

But the majority of the money will go to pay off corporate and multinational ag producers. Crony capitalism at its best. If nothing else, Trump will finish off the small farmer and America will feast on monopolized, GMO-d, Roundup’d and high fructose corn syrup food that the rest of the world doesn’t want anyways.

      1. Once all the American farmers are gone, then there will be no more American farmers to affect! The truth is “small farmers” haven’t been profitable for generations and the government continues to prop them up because someone wants to “keep their family business going”. Well, when other families “family business” was the hometown video rental store, you didn’t see the government propping them up. Those folks found something else profitable to do. Or at least, sold the land and moved somewhere that actually HAD jobs!

Make no mistake, part of the point of this is to keep it going long enough to have the small farmers so much in arrears and so demoralized, that they go out of business by the next season. Can’t really be much job satisfaction anymore growing cops no one wants (for the price they’re charging) and watching it all get tossed. 🙂

    2. “If you can’t make your own way farming, you need to find a new line of business.”

Tell that to the oil companies — the biggest parasites of all. I presume you agree they shouldn’t be “sucking on the government”.

  2. Wow, so many experts on farming here. I had no idea that much produce went to China that a dip in sales will kill off farming.

Anyone one of you ever live on a small family farm and have most of your neighbors do some type of farming??

Anyone here live in areas where much of the income is related to farming?

NO? How about in the technical field where they need to allow some to continue with support for their Huawei equipment until the issue can be resolved?

Any real talk about solutions or ideas to fix either situation? No?
Just running the mouth to feel superior with no thought of ramifications.

Yeah, Bernie’s your man….he knows exactly how to deal with complex issues, just like Obama did(n’t).

    1. “Just running the mouth to feel superior with no thought of ramification.”

that perfectly describes Trump’s dumbass twitter abuse every day, much of it in direct conflict with what his cabinet says. can’t you see the incompetence in everything this administration attempts? the one and only thing Trump accomplished is to convince the lower classes that America wasn’t great until he stepped into the White House. since he arrived, the trade deficit has worsened, there has been no international deals ratified, and American warships are moving on two fronts. he awards a massive tax cut for the corporations that outsourced everything to China then attempts to claw back massive lost govt revenue via tariffs on citizens. Trump is insane.

      1. Hey you forgot the Russian narrative.
Remember that? Oh, it didn’t work out for you did it?

But there is still obstruction, right?? Oh, no that was another bullshit story, just like everything else you’ve said for two years.

So why would I consider anything you say in the way you frame it as worth even considering?

Not great until he stepped into office? No, great AGAIN

No trade deals ratified? Like Obama did?

Warships on two fronts? Maybe we should just go attack Libya again while running from ISIS.

Tax cuts for corporations? SO FUCKING WHAT????
It’s called Economics 101. Learn something.

Insanity is someone that doesn’t see reality for what it really is.
        Good luck with that…
