“The U.S. Commerce Department said on Friday it may soon scale back restrictions on Huawei Technologies after this week’s blacklisting would have made it nearly impossible for the Chinese company to service its existing customers,” Karen Freifeld reports for Reuters. “The Commerce Department, which had effectively halted Huawei’s ability to buy American-made parts and components, is considering issuing a temporary general license to ‘prevent the interruption of existing network operations and equipment,’ a spokeswoman said.”
“Potential beneficiaries of the license could, for example, include internet access and mobile phone service providers in thinly populated places such as Wyoming and eastern Oregon that purchased network equipment from Huawei in recent years,” Freifeld reports. “In effect, the Commerce Department would allow Huawei to purchase U.S. goods so it can help existing customers maintain the reliability of networks and equipment, but the Chinese firm still would not be allowed to buy American parts and components to manufacture new products.”
Freifeld reports, “The United States believes Huawei’s smartphones and network equipment could be used by China to spy on Americans, allegations the company has repeatedly denied.”

Hope it’s soon enough for the farmers and retirees… actually, we could probably do without the farmers sucking on the government to the tune of 12 billion dollars AND going into bankruptcy. If you can’t make your own way farming, you need to find a new line of business.
What, you think it is alright for Trump’s trade war to disproportionately affect American farmers? You’d have them all go bankrupt so Donnie can make a point and try to put a feather in his re-election hat?
If it’ll make you feel any better, USDA is prepping another $15-20 billion in farm assistance to cover lost sales from round 2 of the tariffs.
But the majority of the money will go to pay off corporate and multinational ag producers. Crony capitalism at its best. If nothing else, Trump will finish off the small farmer and America will feast on monopolized, GMO-d, Roundup’d and high fructose corn syrup food that the rest of the world doesn’t want anyways.
Once all the American farmers are gone, then there will be no more American farmers to affect! The truth is “small farmers” haven’t been profitable for generations and the government continues to prop them up because someone wants to “keep their family business going”. Well, when other families “family business” was the hometown video rental store, you didn’t see the government propping them up. Those folks found something else profitable to do. Or at least, sold the land and moved somewhere that actually HAD jobs!
Make no mistake, part of the point of this is to keep it going long enough to have the small farmers so much in arrears and so demoralized, that they go out of business by the next season. Can’t really be much job satisfaction anymore growing cops no one wants (for the price they’re charging) and watching it all get tossed. 🙂
