“Beats just released a new truly wireless model called Powerbeats Pro, and they feel like a revelation,” Adam Clark Estes writes for Gizmodo. “I can’t believe how much I like these earbuds and want to wear them and don’t even feel embarrassed when I do.”
“The $250 Powerbeats Pro are a more rugged, better-fitting, and better-sounding version of the AirPods,” Estes writes. “The design is obviously different, with the inclusion of that familiar ear hook as well as the chunky plastic body that contains the device’s battery and guts. The earbud itself connects to this and rests lightly on the outside of your ear canal, which means there’s no real seal around the rubber bud. (That also means they’re not very good at noise isolation, so a loud subway train would regularly drown out the sound of my music during my commute.) Surprisingly, once you figure out how to put the Powerbeats on your ear, they sort of disappear. During my week of testing, I would regularly forget that I was even wearing them.”
“The new earbuds have the same H1 chip that made its debut in the second-generation AirPods, so they sync up seamlessly with your Apple products,” Estes writes. “The Powerbeats Pro are also water resistant and sweat resistant, which is a big deal if you want to wear these things to the gym. Apple doesn’t give its products IP ratings, but the Powerbeats Pro did stand up to several long, sweaty runs and a quick round in the shower… Here’s the kicker: the Powerbeats Pro sound good, too.”

I thought powerbeats sealed the ear canal – I know the current ones do but this reviewer says that he hears ambient noise just fine.. Which is it?
I’m not sure “sucked” is the most definitive term, but for a $100 premium, they better be A LOT better.
With that said, no wireless charging, a half-brick case and iPh X-like expense! I rebel at the price.
Wireless charging. I don’t care. Giant case. I don’t care, won’t be needing to put the case in my pocket. Sound quality? I care a lot. $250 in the big scheme of things is no biggie. Many people waste that much or more at Starbucks for a month.
Using the Starbucks nimrods as a supporting case isn’t that bright. $3000/yr on coffee might be “convenient,” but the real cost is silly. With that mindset, no wonder the avg American rolls into retirement with less than 200k (that’s generous).
My point is, a lot of people will nickel and dime themselves to death on low value or even worthless purchases, and then turn around and complain about the cost of something that returns significant value, like wireless earbuds that actually deliver outstanding sound quality. Pick whatever supporting case you want if you don’t like Starbucks.

MDN must not have tried them yet to be hating so hard. I’m going to bet they are pretty great. May actually end up betting the 250$ purchase price.
I really like my 2nd generation AirPods. And considering that Beats products are ugly and plasticky looking, I won’t be changing over.
Regarding Starbucks: It’s the McDonalds of coffee. If you want great coffee worth $5 cup made by people who know what they’re doing, go to small independent shops.
