What’s coming in Apple’s WWDC 2019

“We’re less than a month away from Apple’s annual developer conference, which kicks off on June 3, and expectations are ballooning,” Justin Jaffe writes for CNET. “If the rumors are true, the company may use the event to unveil new hardware and announce one of the more significant changes to it iOS and MacOS software road map in years. ”

“Wnlike last year, when Apple focused mostly on shoring up the speed and responsiveness of its software, there’s a stronger chance of major product introductions and revelations in 2019,” Jaffe writes. “Perhaps the most anticipated news concerns the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system, likely to be called iOS 13, which powers the iPhone and iPad, and which is overdue for a major overhaul… [with] greater interoperability between iOS with macOS.”

“Given the precedent for hardware announcements and introductions at WWDC, there’s also a chance that we could see a new MacBook Pro or iPad Pro, or some other unknown product, brought out on stage. The company could also debut the updated Mac Pro, which it has already pledged to reveal in 2019,” Jaffe writes. “Apple may be taking another step toward evolving the iPad into a true laptop replacement. Federico Viticci, editor in chief of MacStories, says that the company may build in mouse support for the iPad in a future version of iOS. ”

MacDailyNews Take: WWDC is the perfect venue to at least reveal the next-gen Mac Pro (and new Apple pro displays) and begin rebuilding the fractured relationship with professional Mac users who are relatively small in number, but who carry outsized influence. We’re not expecting it, but if they unveiled and days after began shipping the new Mac Pro and Apple display(s) at WWDC we’d be very pleasantly surprised.

We are as excited as ever about our great pipeline of hardware, software and services and we’re looking forward to sharing more information about the future of our four software platforms at our Worldwide Developer Conference now less than five weeks from now. Everyone here is hard at work to prepare for WWDC, and it’s always a privilege to get to share the future of our platforms with the community of world changing developers who bring it to life. You are not going to want to miss this one. — Apple CEO Tim Cook, April 30, 2019

  1. MDN says “professional Mac users who are relatively small in number, but who carry outsized influence. ”

    Small in numbers? YES

    Outsized influence? Obviously NOT.

    1. I’m sure you must be hoping for the modular Mac Pro, so you can stack each component you need on top of one another just like Lego blocks. /s

At the time, Apple could have simply updated the cheese-grater with new hardware and we wouldn’t have had to wait years for a decent Mac Pro.

  2. EXTRA, EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT.
New Severely Over Priced & Limited Mac Pro.
With all the best hardware that was available 2 years ago. All soldered in for reliability.
    Release date:
Fall 2020 or early spring 2021 maybe mid year 2021, but defiantly no later than fall 2021. We pinky swear no later than early spring 2022.
It’s in the Pipeline too know.

  3. Apple BETTER reveal what half-baked Mac Pro for 2019 they have in mind at WWDC. Not many are optimistic they will have “cracked it” on anything other than being overpriced.

  4. Just throwing this out there – any chance Apple will actually throw game developers a bone and include or sell a standardized gaming controller with/for AppleTV? They’re obviously investing in gaming big time with Apple Arcade..
standardizing around a great controller would actually make devs consider porting great games to ATV.

    1. Just throwing this out there too…I am an iOS developer and have never even had an incline to make a game for the Apple TV, or Mac for that matter. They just don’t appeal to me. Now, I fully understand that Arcade is likely only aimed at studios with big budgets to sign up for…I personally think it will hobbled because it is a MUST for any game to comply with iOS, macOS and tvOS. That is crazy and will turn some people away. How will some games ever work for Apple TV? They could make an abridged version but how will that work with hand-off? We can all dream about a controller but you do get that, that makes a “4th” paradigm to program for? The Apple TV is dead, they are trying to revive it by dictating to developers that is had to be supported which as I said will hobble Arcade games by either A. devs making games use the ATV as the lowest common denominator, B. They will turn off/away potential amazing game studios because they are dictating that the entire eco-system has to be supported all at once. It’s a stupid, stupid dictation to harm what works for another thing doesn’t – to try to revive what is already dead. Smells of Cook and Cue??

  5. New Mac Pro, professional displays, and new MacBook Pros all are likely. No new iPod Pro, those will wait until after the new iPhone and the introduction of the A13 chip set.
