Foxconn chairman Terry Gou travels to White House to discuss Wisconsin investment

Terry Gou, “the chairman of Apple supplier Foxconn will travel to the United States on Tuesday for a meeting in the White House that is believed to be related to an investment in Wisconsin, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter,” Yimou Lee and James Pomfret report for Reuters.

“In January, Reuters reported that Foxconn is reconsidering plans to make advanced liquid crystal display panels at a $10 billion Wisconsin campus, and said it intends to hire mostly engineers and researchers rather than the manufacturing workforce the project originally promised,” Lee and Pomfret report. “Foxconn, a major supplier to Apple Inc, has pledged to eventually create 13,000 jobs in Wisconsin, but said this year it had slowed its pace of hiring.”

“The source said it wasn’t yet clear if Gou would meet U.S. President Donald Trump,” Lee and Pomfret report. “Gou, who owns 9.4 percent of Foxconn as its top shareholder, is Taiwan’s richest person with a net worth of $7.6 billion, according to Forbes.”

MacDailyNews Take: Hopefully, after what seemed like some considerable waffling, Foxconn will prove they are committed to their promised investment in Wisconsin.

  1. Yeah, I always chuckle when I see stories about this because I remember reading back when this was promised that Foxconn was talking between 3,000 and 4,000 jobs and someone either with the Trump campaign or governor Walker’s office stuck a 1 on the front because it looked better as 13,000 jobs. And given that these things almost never create as many jobs as they say, I was going to be impressed if Foxconn ever got to 3,000 jobs there.

  2. I remember when conservatives wanted government to stay out of their business.

Today every business blatantly panders for government favors and the self-proclaimed conservatives endorse the corruption.

  3. After 9/11, over 100,000 people were laid off in the Airline industry . . . you won’t see that again — no company has that many American workers to lay off . . . . now we’re “excited” if a company hires over 1000 workers.

  4. I have that shirt 🙂 Got a lot of compliments (and smiles) when I wore it. Also had one that said, “touch my belly and I’ll break your hand” lol For some reason, strangers think it’s ok to just come up to you and touch your pregnant belly. Glad your ankle is better, and glad you got to spend family time over the long weekend 🙂
