“Apple is widely expected to release three new iPhone models later this year, and each device will ‘likely’ include a faster 18W USB-C power adapter and a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box, according to Japanese blog Mac Otakara,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors.
“Despite adding fast charging support to the iPhone 8 and newer, allowing for a 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes via USB-C Power Delivery, Apple has continued to include the same old 5W power adapter and Lightning to USB-A cable with iPhones for many years,” Rossignol reports. “For now, to take advantage of fast charging, customers have to spend a total of $48 to purchase a standalone 18W USB-C power adapter and Lightning to USB-C cable from Apple, although cheaper options are available on Amazon.”
Rossignol reports, “A bundled Lightning to USB-C cable would also mean that customers who paid at least $749 for a new iPhone would finally have a cable that connects with the latest MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models out of the box.”

So is Apple looking for praise in including a fast charger now? Samsung has done the same from the start with their fast charge smartphones.
Indeed, they exploded upon the scene quite dramatically. Apple does however love to make their customers pay though the nose or themselves take risks on cheaper more suspect alternatives. Doesn’t sit right with me especially when one views their enormous profits and margins.
It’s a disgrace that this isn’t already included in the box. Why have the capability in the phones if you aren’t going to ship the charger as standard?

I bought a phone that I can’t charge on my laptop without a dongle. That’s kinda lame.
Or… just buy a USB-C to Lightning cable? People don’t complain about buying a $40 case for their phone… but when it comes to an extra charging cable…
Long overdue and will also mean an iPhone will finally ship with a cable you can plug directly into a modern Mac without an adapter. As has been said, this is not something to congratulate Apple on but it will be fantastic if this happens.
