President Trump met with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey; discussed the 2020 election, efforts to stop opioid abuse, and more

“President Trump on Tuesday met privately with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, a huddle at the White House between one of the site’s most prolific users and an executive who’s faced criticism for the way Twitter has handled the president’s tweets,” Tony Romm reports for The Washington Post. “The meeting came as Trump continues to attack the tech industry, threatening to regulate Facebook, Google and Twitter out of concern that they censor conservatives online — an allegation those companies fiercely deny. The president’s latest salvo arrived just hours before he met with Dorsey: Trump accused Twitter of playing ‘political games’ and tampering with his nearly 60 million followers.”

“A significant portion of the meeting focused on Trump’s concerns that Twitter quietly, and deliberately, has limited or removed some of his followers, according to a person with direct knowledge of the conversation who requested anonymity because it was private,” Romm reports. “Trump said he had heard from fellow conservatives who had lost followers for unclear reasons as well.”

“But Twitter long has explained that follower figures fluctuate as the company takes action to remove fraudulent spam accounts. In the meeting, Dorsey stressed that point, noting even he had lost followers as part of Twitter’s work to enforce its policies, according to the source, who described the meeting as cordial,” Romm reports. “In a statement, Twitter said the meeting — initiated by the president — focused on ‘protecting the health of the public conversation ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections and efforts underway to respond to the opioid crisis.’ Twitter partners with the federal government on a program to encourage Americans to dispose of prescription drugs they no longer need to prevent against abuse.”

  1. Let me fix that headline. “Heroin Abuse”.
Last time I checked, the ER runs and cops are reviving drug addicts that are OD’d on heroin and fentanyl.
It’s real simple. Rehab for the users. Death penalty for the drug sellers.
    Singapore solved this decades ago.

  2. The MDN spin continues. The real article top headline is:
“Trump met with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey — and complained about his follower count”.

Anyone who actually cares about the health of the republic would be eager to eradicate foreign tweet bots from US discussion. Instead, Trump continues his whining about anti-Trump bias (without any evidence, as usual) on the very platform he has dominated for years. Any other person doing what Trump regularly does would have been removed for violating Twitter’s published policy on harassment and abuse. But as Trump continues to lower his standards, profit-seeking Twitter is willing to grant special exemptions to profitable assholes. Spineless Dorsey is “considering” adding notes to tweets from “high profile” posters that violate the platform rules. Is that akin to Apple sending you a nice note when an iOS app developer allows obscenities to be posted to your kids’ iPad? Well we have rules but, you know, the ad money and free publicity is too good to turn down……

Trump spent almost no time talking to Dorsey about any issues of national importance. The bulk of the meeting was centered around Trump’s dismay that when Twitter belatedly deletes foreign-operated tweetbot networks, Trump’s follower count drops. Well duh, Trump’s support base started with a full-court press from foreign infiltration of US media. That is well documented. But autocrat-wannabe Trump truly cares nothing but himself. Trump’s regular criticism of the very platform he uses to spew his haterade is ironic. If it’s so bad and you are the executive of the most powerful nation of the planet, the nation that practically invented the internet, why are you whining about how you are treated on a cheap low-end social network? Publish your own goddamned media feed, Prez.

MDN, do you honestly believe that a president that cares about the drug epidemic would fiddle for 2 years and then reach out to a tech gossip rag for advice on curbing drug trafficking and abuse? It’s a nice political football but the administration is showing practically no results for all the rhetoric they spew. The president hasn’t called for regulation to hold Big Pharma accountable and he hasn’t asked for funds to investigate and block US drug kingpins, and he hasn’t worked with foreign gvts. to increase efforts to shut down traffickers. If it isn’t clear by now, the chief executive is flailing badly.

This picture shows what Trump considers a “cordial” meeting. Full on bitch and lecture mode from Trumpov:

  3. Twitter is against me…everyone is against me…fake news is against me…ahhhhh
The Whiner in Chief is at it again.

He is in discussion with Twitter about the opioid crisis? Why doesn’t he discuss it with…..wait for it…..’the experts in the field’.

Twitter…do the USA a favour and delete Carrot-top’s account. We all need a rest and want to tune into other news that does not dwell on hatred, name calling, childish rants for awhile.

  4. Inept tech illiterate buffoons in the swamp, worse than ever before. Trump and his henchmen are famous for flip flopping on every issue, blaming others for their own failings.

This is a tweet from the Trump administration’s cyber security advisor, Rudy Giuliani, a guy long known for having impressive tech credentials (not!) He doesn’t know how Twitter or hyperlinking works.

According to Motherboard, the reason the text linked to the site was due to a typo in Giuliani’s original tweet. He forgot to include a space after the period of “G-20,” and the next word “in” happens to be the top-level domain for India. Shortly after, a user bought the domain http://www.G-20.in which of course posts flattering facts about the traitorous administration. You know, like factual press releases of scum like Stone and Manafort being indicted, Mattis resigning — that kind of actual news. Giuliani and Trump got pwned, and they took it out on the platform that they themselves rely on to publish their error-ridden fact-free tirades.

Let’s hope that the decent American people realize that Trump is undermining the nation and is not working on their behalf. The proof keeps pouring in all the time.

  5. https://www.conservativedailynews.com/2019/04/president-donald-trumps-schedule-for-tuesday-april-23-2019/
    https://factba.se/topic/calendar

One more point: a transparent White House would have published a schedule of the enterprises that the President meets before they happen. Thank goodness there is a press corps.

Official calendar for Trump on Tuesday, April 23:
11:45 AM – The President participates in a photo opportunity with the White House News Photographers Association award recipients
12:30 PM – The President has lunch with the Vice President
3:45 PM – The President participates in a swearing-in ceremony of the Secretary of the Interior

That is it, folks. 3 items on the agenda, all of them fluff. The MDN-touted event was not revealed to the public until after it happened. So we have two conclusions: As usual, Trump doesn’t want anyone to know who he talks to, and/or, Trump is the lightest working president that the USA has ever seen. I think both.

Note April 23 was the deadline for Trump to release his tax returns to the Congressional committee for them to verify what foreign entanglements exist. He blew it. Trump is the first president since liar-in-chief Nixon to refuse to release his taxes proving he is in compliance with the Constitution that the president must not work on behalf of foreign powers.
