“Today following its event at the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple released the latest major update for iPhones and iPads: iOS 12.2,” Ryan Christoffel reports for MacStories. “This version of iOS launches Apple’s just-debuted subscription service for News, includes support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on compatible TVs and streaming hardware, plus it brings four new Animoji, and more.”
“Coinciding with the announcement of Apple’s grand TV plans, iOS 12.2 brings key system support for AirPlay 2 on compatible hardware – including streaming devices like the Apple TV and the newest TV sets from Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio,” Christoffel reports. “You can now use Siri on iOS to start and control video playback on AirPlay-compatible TV hardware.”
“Apple continues expanding the roster of Animoji available inside Messages and FaceTime,” Christoffel reports. “iOS 12.2 brings four new characters: a shark, giraffe, owl, and warthog.”

12.2 update wrecked Apple Pay for me. Deleted all my cards and won’t let me add them back. Tells me I already have the max of 12 cards. Other users are reporting this problem on other forums.
I thought I was bricked for about 10 minutes, the various updates caused by it apparently were the problem. just me I have too many apps and need to reduce my dependence on IOS.
In an unrelated event I have been recovering from eye surgery which required me to be in a face down position for days, had to drag out my seldom used iPad to view movies, etc and to do a limited amount of ed-mail, etc.
Two reactions: OH, do I appreciate desktop computers and specifically Mac, with all of its issues.
And my iPad and as many other touch interface devices are going back in the drawer somewhere.
I wish i could have taken the time to write 15-20 pages of examples that illustrate the difference in functionality that exists in so many ways that touch interface fans just cant comprehend. I am not even going to start, it would take a couple of days, which i do not have.
I know thats not fair, but its reality.
If all you have seen is touch interface and its by necessity “simple only” work flows, it will seem great. Let the flames begin, I am busy catching up.
Good luck with that this happened to me last year when I was using my series 3 Apple Watch apple never figured out a fix. After six months of waiting on Apple I purchased a series 4 and it resolve the issue. Go figure.
I am so pleased that Mr Cook has added some more animojis to the flock! I wish he would take the remaining two engineers off Software QA and assign them too, to designing even more animojis. We don’t need no stinking software QA.
