“We’re just a week away from the expected announcement of Apple’s streaming video service,” Chance Miller reports for 9to5Mac. “While details are still sparse, a report earlier today listed five TV shows that have already wrapped shooting.”
“Meanwhile, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings today confirmed that the company has no intentions to be a part of Apple’s upgraded TV application,” Miller reports. “Netflix CEO Reed Hastings addressed Apple’s ambitious streaming plans at an event. Hastings said that while ‘Apple is a great company,’ Netflix wants to be able to control its own content through its own app.”
“Part of Apple’s revamped TV strategy is said to be an upgraded TV app that allows users to subscribe to third-party services like HBO, Starz, and more. Netflix, however, will not be part of this new TV app hub, as previous reports have suggested,” Miller reports. “This shouldn’t come as a major surprise, however. Netflix has long resisted Apple’s TV app on tvOS, so it was unlikely from the start that it would integrate with an upgraded version of the app either.”
Reed Hastings confirms that Netflix won't be a part of the new Apple video hub announced next week. "Apple’s a great company. We want to have people watch our shows on our services.”

MacDailyNews Take: Netflix is currently strong enough to go it alone, but they’d do better in the long-run by participating in Apple’s TV app as it progreses in its way to becoming the logical first place for Appel device users to go for content. Apple has time on their side. Netflix can always come around evenutally.

This sounds a little like the stores who held out against ApplePay. That said I can understand Netflix’s reticence.
Apple will likely use they’re significant advantage in capital to create higher quality content. There stuff has always been higher quality anyways. There in it for the long haul, too. With they’re iPhone profits falling and there Mac line stagnant, they need new sources of revenue. At the end of the day, apple will use thei’re platform advantage to beet Netflix at they’re own game.
Netflix has had no problem getting subscribers without Apple’s help, so why should they pay 15-30% of their subscription price to Apple? That may change, but right now the benefit of Netflix working with Apple seems to be entirely Apple’s.
Netflix stopped paying Apple for sign ups a while ago, this is not what’s this is about, this is allowing the TV App to find and Display Netflix content if your already a subscriber and perhaps more, because I don’t quite get why they would not want users to locate their content in the TV App.
I’m sorry if I appear ignorant, but does this mean that Netflix will not be available as an app on the standard TVos that I am using for my Apple TV4k ???

This has nothing to do with the Appstore 30% royalty. this has to do with making their Netflix app compatible with Apple’s TV app.
The TV app can search and interact with all of the compatible apps, displaying shows and content that a person started watching or that was available or featured in a supporting app. Netflix wants you to open their app so they can push advertising for their original content

Netflix can suck it, although I can understand them not wanting to pay 30% tribute to Emperor Apple. I wonder if will hurt Apple more than Netflix. I hear people always saying how great Netflix is but I’m happy watching Amazon Prime Video.
