“Chief executives of major companies said at a White House forum on Wednesday that they are hiring more Americans without college degrees as they search to find increasingly scarce applicants for open jobs,” David Shepardson reports for Reuters. “The White House hosted CEOs of major corporations who joined a Trump administration advisory board on workforce issues, including from Apple Inc, IBM Corp, Lockheed Martin Corp, Siemens USA and Home Depot Inc, who are part of a 25-member board co-chaired by President Donald Trump’s daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. ‘We have a chance to employ so many more people – and not always with a college degree, a less than a four-year degree will get a very good paying job in the new economy,’ said IBM Chief Executive Ginni Rometty.”
“Apple CEO Tim Cook said nearly 50 percent of the people the company hired in the United States last year did not have a four-year degree,” Shepardson reports. “‘We never thought that the college degree was the thing that you had to have to do well,’ Cook said, adding that ‘our founder was a college dropout,’ an apparent reference to Steve Jobs. Cook said he believed ‘strongly’ that computer coding proficiency should be a requirement before U.S. students graduate from high school.”
“Trump said he wants to help companies find workers and he wants more high-skilled immigrants as U.S. unemployment remains low at 4 percent. ‘In one way, I love it,’ Trump said of low unemployment. ‘But in another way, I don’t want to make it hard for you,'” Shepardson reports. “Last month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said U.S. job openings reached a record high in December at 7.3 million. The White House says the job openings present ‘a mismatch between the skills needed and those being taught, requiring immediate attention to help more Americans enter the workforce.'”

In the mid-70’s, local businesses would always call my university and ask for “bright students” that they could hire.
They sent me out one too many times; I never came back to finish my degree.
I have to admit that there were situations where that hurt me, but now – 45 years into my career – a company that won’t give my resume a look because there’s no degree on it is, in my experience, a company that’s not worth working for, being more concerned with appearances than with results.
Just can’t help yourself.
We do not have an illegal migrant problem- we have an illegal employer problem.
Years ago we prosecuted those who knowingly hired illegal aliens, but that system ended under Saint Reagan (peace be upon him). He also pardoned millions of illegals- imagine the Republican reaction if Obama had done something like that.
The Gawd’s honest truth is that most illegals are settled in a handful of states and mostly do work American simply will not do. Ask the farmers who hire migrant workers- many of whom are illegally here- who picks the veggies and fruit on your dinner table. Most illegals are not committing crimes, but are often victims of crime. If you are on the down low you are not going to do anything to attract attention to yourself. Illegals also pay taxes- when they buy utilities, food, fuel, cars, services, and insurance they are paying taxes despite the fact that many government services are NOT available to them.
You start busting the contractors hiring out of the Home Depot and Lowe’s parking lot every morning and that crap will end. Start busting the wealthy who hire illegals to clean house, clean the pool and maintain the lawn and that crap will end. Start busting the companies that hire illegals to work in packing plants and on farms and that crap will end.
The truth of the matter is that the people who created the problem usually vote for the party that rants about illegal migration the most- the Republicans. I cut my own grass, cook my own meals, clean my own house and no longer own a swimming pool.

The issue is compensation, not the job. Instead of raising the pay to attract American workers, businesses bring in illegal workers for cheap labor.

If you are in the country illegally, you are a criminal. If your family member is a victim of a violent crime by one of the “illegals”, the fact that “most” are not committing them rings hollow.

By this rhetoric, a splinter is as serious a problem as a gunshot wound. Please don’t try to compare their immigration status to such crimes as assault, murder, or rape. It’s not the same.

Exactly right, the Democrat controlled unions are the absolute WORST element of education holding back much needed reform for decades.

Steve figured out very early on it was a waste of money for a lot of professions. For example, do you need a doctorate from the Royal Academy of Music in London to win American Idol like Carrie Underwood and thus be blessed with a successful career. Answer, no.

FACT: For decades the U.S. ranks lowest in test scores of the G8 nations.
If the media was not FIRMLY in the pocket shilling for Big Education SACRED COW (journalism term) and the Democratic Party shilling for cheap votes while buying them off with more money promised at EVERY ELECTION — this problem would be scrutinized, worked on and SOLVED!
That said, give President Trump credit for raising the issue and reaching out to CEOs of all parties to begin discussion and work together on viable solutions. Not to mention the record unemployment numbers of various demographic groups and record number of job seekers.
