Apple is so serious about health, Apple Stores have started hosting heart-health events

“Apple hosted its first health-focused event at its Union Square store in San Francisco on Monday evening,” Christina Farr reports for CNBC. “It started with a panel on the topic of heart health and ended with an walk around the block to demonstrate the activity features on the Apple Watch.”

“Apple has not previously hosted any dedicated health events at its Apple Stores, but it has scheduled three this month, including in Chicago and New York,” Farr reports. “The events are in support of Heart Month, as heart health is a big area of focus for the Apple Watch, which includes an optical sensor to measure the user’s heart rate and (in the new version) an electrocardiogram to measure the heart’s rhythm.”

“These events are yet another signal that the company is positioning health care is key to its future,” Farr reports. “At the event, Apple Health’s Sumbul Desai spoke alongside the celebrity fitness trainer Jeanette Jenkins and the American Heart Association’s president-elect Robert Harrington. Apple’s Julz Arny, who works on special projects for fitness at Apple, moderated the session.”

On the healthcare, in particular, and sort of your wellbeing, this is an area that I believe, if you zoom out into the future, and you look back, and you ask the question, “What was Apple’s greatest contribution to mankind?” It will be about health. Because our business has always been about enriching people’s lives. And as we’ve gotten into healthcare more and more through the Watch and through other things that we’ve created with ResearchKit and CareKit and putting your medical records on the iPhone, this is a huge deal. And it’s something that is very important for people. We are democratizing it. We are taking what has been with the institutions and empowering the individual to manage their health. And we’re just at the front end of this. But I do think, looking back, in the future, you will answer that question, Apple’s most-important contribution to mankind has been in health. — Tim Cook, January 8, 2019

  1. Again, Pipeline masticates with elaborations like an executive officer would rather than a commander like Steve Jobs was and always will be remembered. Assign these wordy explanations to an XO. Be like Trump or Bush. That’s the only good things about those two Right-wingers; They did not waste time on long explanations, leaving that to underling fixers.

  2. On the day that a functioning glucose monitor is built into of Apple Watch (even if just “sold as a novelty only” meaning they do not have FDA approval), that is the day that I buy an Apple Watch and get off these intrusive and expensive devices that one must plug into the body and pay for again and again and again. Let’s GO Apple!
