“As Intel’s quest for a new CEO passes six months, one name that has been on the company’s list but hasn’t been previously reported is Apple’s Johny Srouji,” Ina Fried reports for Axios.
“As SVP of hardware technologies, Srouji has overseen the company’s push into, among other things, designing more of its own silicon,” Fried reports. “While not an insider, Srouji does have quite a bit of experience with the chipmaker, having worked at its Israel facility from 1990 to 2005.”

“Intel Corp. has been trying to fill the most prominent role in the $400-billion chip industry for more than six months,” Ian King reports for Bloomberg. “Chairman Andy Bryant told some employees recently that the chipmaker may go with a ‘non-traditional’ candidate, suggesting a CEO from outside the company is a possibility.”
“Intel is scheduled to report earnings on Jan. 24. The board is trying to make its choice ahead of that date, according to one of the people. Possible candidates such as Sanjay Jha, Anand Chandrasekher and Renee James are no longer involved, the people said,” King reports. “Bob Swan, Intel’s chief financial officer, is filling the CEO role on an interim basis and he was on CNBC last week discussing strategy like a full-time leader. However, Swan repeated that he doesn’t want the job permanently.”
King reports, “Former CEO Brian Krzanich was ousted on June 21 after the board discovered he had an extramarital affair with an employee.”

Intel late in delivering as usual and sadly if Srouji goes then this is likely another area Apple will be late on delivering too.

Then, MDN, maybe you should stop saying over and over that the retail head is the obvious logical successor to Tim Cook as CEO. Maybe this guy makes a whole lot more sense than Angela Ahrendts.

The New Mac Mini caused my fantasy to pop up. If the new Mini was say 2 inches wider it might have had a Proper GPU and easier to upgrade RAM, and perhaps other hardware innovations. Two generations ago the bigger Mini had an easy spring clip to take the RAM out, took one minute. Bigger minis would probably be easier and cheaper to build too. ( Why does a desktop need to be a couple inches smaller and lose so much functionality?) Multiply this by others like the Cylinder Mac Pro etc…. Too many of Ive’s designs put unneeded constraints on hardware.
Why would Jony Ive have any input on the design of the Mac Mini, which has no need for design aesthetics but has overwhelming need for function? It is purely a functional box which is not a “coffee table computer”.
You clearly don’t understand Apple at all if you make that statement. Whether it could be a few inches bigger and meet it’s functional objectives is a fair debate (and the answer is yes), but to say that an Apple product shouldn’t take aesthetic design into consideration is absurd. Design is what makes Apple different from a generic box maker and why people pay a premium for the product.
Intel would be better off going for Lisa Su but I imagine she has a ridiculous amount of unvested stock at AMD they would have to compensate her for if she left. That would be irrelevant if the rumor from a few days ago about Intel buying AMD came to pass.
