Apple’s revolutionary iPhone continues to own the premium smartphone market

“According to Counterpoint Research’s Market Monitor Q3 2018, the global premium smartphone segment [over $400] continues to grow faster than the overall smartphone market,” Tarun Pathak writes for Counterpoint Research. “The growth in the third quarter was driven by new iPhone launches along with the flagship launches of key Chinese OEMs such as OPPO and vivo. The global, premium smartphone segment grew faster (+19%) than the overall smartphone segment (-5%) in Q3 2018.”

“The premium smartphone segment represented 22% of the global smartphone market share during Q3 2018,” Pathak writes. “Close to 40 OEMs compete in the premium segment globally, out of which the top five players account for almost 89% of shipments. Apple led the global premium smartphone segment capturing 47% share of the segment, followed by Samsung (22%), Huawei (12%), vivo (5%), OPPO (5%) and Xiaomi (3%).”

    1. Well, the article shows the very point of concerns people currently have. It’s not like Apple is doomed or selling the iPhone crazy etc. Apple now relies upon something like 60 to 65% of their entire business on the iPhone, hence the criticism of one trick pony company etc (they were not used to be so). Out of that, they rely on a very small percentage of the total smartphone market (so-called high-end market). In order to sustain this business structure, Apple has no choice but to maintain the high price (so-called a premium pricing) for total revenue.
However, since last year, they went too wild in overpricing, which resulted in the market disillusion. The unit sales are almost certainly down now and that’s why Apple is scrambling to offer the discount in many ways, one way of which is tieing up with Amazon and Costco etc. They just have to do so unless they reduce the price outright which they won’t. Now they stopped telling how many iPhones they are selling, so we. cannot tell if the biz is good or not. So, the article may not be saying it’s a doom and gloom story, but if you read the statistic carefully, there are some concerning factors in the way the Apple is currently managed. That’s the way I read it anyway…. 🙂

  1. I just got the Max , about a week ago right out of the box , the fluidity is unmatched !!!! Even coming from the 8plus a year ago , this was a much bigger jump than when I upgraded from the 7plus to the 8 plus , obviously..

When you argue with these guys using the note or the Galaxy , you just cannot get through to them , it’s amazing , the general comeback believe it or not , is usually “ headphone jack “ , 😂😂😂

What YEAR are these guys living in ???
    I reply “ Air Pods “ ,
“ oh they’re too expensive and easily lost “
How do you lose something coming from out of a pocket , to your ears ??? 😂😂😂

Then this one “ no SD card storage “
WTF – ever hear of cloud storage ??????

    Can’t fight city hall
