“Apple Music support on Amazon Echo speakers is starting to roll out in the United States through the Alexa app on iOS and Android a few days ahead of schedule,” Zac Hall reports for 9to5Mac.
“You can now connect your Apple Music account with Echo speakers through the Alexa app and use Apple’s music streaming service with Alexa voice control,” Hall reports. “Once you connect your Apple Music account to Alexa, you can set the music service as your default music library source and default music station source. This lets you request music from Apple Music without telling Alexa which service to use each time.”

Can I ask how Apple didn’t foresee this kind of device coming and had one of their own to sell? Oh wait that would take having a visionary like Steve Jobs at the helm and all we got was this lousy ex-Compaq supplier person with zero personality.

Yes, frustrating that last Christmas I bought 3 Echos, and then this Christmas 2 more… because there is reasonable Mac alternative available. 99% of the functionality from everyone I know is just music, timers, alarms, reminders, weather, and news.. (with a mix of random trivia/questions). I would think apple is capable of rolling that out pretty quickly with a 50-100 item.
No no, you’re thinking of it all WRONG. Apple isn’t interested in the personal assistant space (just have 30 seconds of conversation with Siri to confirm that).
They were focused on making a really expensive middling-audio-quality mono speaker. With no physical input, so it can stream from one and only one music provider or it can play out of sync via bluetooth.
And then once the market for THAT beauty was saturated, THEN they’d introduce the world-changing innovation : connecting two of them together in a configuration we’re calling “stereophonic sound.” It completes the journey of invention they began when they “Live Photos” introduced moving pictures and sound captured at the same time.

Wow, I am so glad I saw this.
Went to the Alexa setting and found out it is only for the Apple Music subscription, not the Match or Shared library.
Well ok, I expected as much but I can’t stand Apple Music.
However I DID find out I could link my Tidal account and so far it works great.
