“The iPhone XS Max has beat all of Android smartphones that YouTuber PhoneBuff has put it up against so far,” Michael Potuck reports for 9to5Mac.
“But we haven’t seen the Mate 20 Pro square off against the XS Max,” Potuck reports. “After Huawei previously claimed its Kirin 980 chipset would be faster than Apple’s A12 Bionic, the Mate 20 has suffered a defeat in the latest smartphone speed test.”
“Back in September, Huawei came out and said that its in-house Kirin 980 chip would be speedier than Apple’s A12 Bionic,” Potuck reports. “Even with Huawei using a custom chip and double the RAM, this test shows that Apple’s tight integration between its hardware and software is second to none.”

Curios .. why do Facebook and Starbuck and Espn open and load so much faster on Mate 20 pro?
Does this mean Mate 20 pro is faster in browsing and loading sites?

Hard to say what the difference is. Is it the difference between the phones? Is it the difference between the OS. Is it the difference between the apps? Who knows. And the OSs and the apps will be updated to change the results in the future. This test might have validity between two Android phones iPhone versus Mate 20 this test is useless.
Those are not websites opened in Safari. Those are apps specific to those companies. The most likely scenario is they got lots of support (financial or technical) from Alphabet/Google to tune their apps to operate as fast as possible under Android OS while Apple did not give equivalent support. This does not mean that the iPhone XS Max is slower. It means that something was tuned for one phone and not for the other.
This has always been the case with benchmarking. Unless you get down into the code running on the device it is impossible to tell what is really going on.

just to clarify … I did not say Max plus is slower over all. As a matter of fact i can see that in games and non web based apps.. it is much faster.
Just wondering why in those specific cases it was significantly slower..
And referance i made to browsing was not through safari.. but the content that is derived from their web content through the specific apps.

The tight integration does do the trick. Tight integration means high optimization over a limited subset of features. It’s legitimate and it’s not magic.
It’s also why I bristle when Apple claims the A12 is faster than most desktop CPUs.
